With CG Deck, a startup is developing a handheld PC that, thanks to an Intel processor and modular input devices, can be used both as a gaming handheld and as a Linux server. With a battery life of eight hours and open-source firmware, CG Deck is said to be extremely versatile.

Mogozen is a small startup consisting of just two people. With the CG Deck, this tiny team has developed an ambitious handheld PC that could hardly be more versatile. On the one hand, the PC uses an Intel Processor N150, making it compatible with both Windows 11 and numerous Linux distributions, so it can, for example, host Docker apps or run retro games via an emulator.

On the other hand, the input device on the front can be swapped out. Among other things, Mogozen has developed a gamepad with a D-pad, two analog sticks, and ABXY buttons, as well as a full-size QWERTY keyboard with QMK firmware and interchangeable keys. In addition, there’s a macro pad with RGB lighting and a trackball. The top third of the front panel houses a 5-inch touchscreen with a resolution of 1,024 x 600 pixels and an impressive brightness of 1,000 nits.

The handheld PC can hold three 18650 lithium-ion batteries, providing a total capacity of 10,500 mAh and a battery life of eight hours. The base model features 8 GB of RAM, 64 GB of storage, and Wi-Fi 6E, while the “Max” model offers 16 GB of RAM, 128 GB of storage, and Wi-Fi 7. An M.2 slot for an LTE modem, a microSD slot, two USB-A ports, one USB-C port, Ethernet, and a 3.5 mm headphone jack are standard features of this 590-gram handheld PC.

Pricing and availability

Mogozen has not yet confirmed when or at what price the CG Deck will be launched. The project is set to be released entirely under an open-source license, covering both the hardware and the firmware. Details can be found on GitHub and on the manufacturer’s website.
