Bosch secures major Mercedes EV motor order amid company crisis

Good news for the heavily pressured automotive supplier Bosch. Following massive job cuts and a string of bad news in recent months, a major new order is providing a breath of fresh air for the Mobility division. Mercedes-Benz has placed a large-scale order for electric motors to power its upcoming electric vehicles. The long-term partnership will run into the 2030s and covers a high volume of drive units across various performance classes.
With this deal, Bosch will supply the core components for the next generation of premium electric vehicles. According to the company, the electric motors achieve an exceptionally high efficiency rate of up to 98%. A central factor in this success is a novel winding technology combined with an innovative rotor oil cooling system. This design optimally dissipates the generated heat and noticeably increases power density.
Another advantage for automakers is the scalable architecture of the drive units. The electric motors can be flexibly adjusted in length and seamlessly integrated into different axle variants. This saves weight and installation space while significantly reducing overall system costs. For 2026, Bosch plans to produce more than seven million components for electric driving worldwide.
The company currently manufactures around seven electric motors per minute. The Mercedes order represents an immensely important milestone for Bosch. Most recently, the corporation had made negative headlines due to drastic profit slumps and plans to eliminate tens of thousands of jobs in Germany.
With this new deal, the supplier proves its technological competitiveness in the fiercely contested electromobility market. Alongside Mercedes-Benz, more than 50 automobile manufacturers worldwide are currently counted among the Swabian company's clients.
