BioShock 4 main storyline, "interconnected city" setting, and gameplay design details leak

BioShock 4 was officially announced back in 2019. However, it is now 2026, and we have yet to see what the game looks like, how the gameplay works, and where the game takes place. There is a good reason for this, though. BioShock 4 has been in development hell with multiple reported reboots, leadership changes, and staff layoffs. Thankfully, leakers have been feeding us occasional nuggets of information, and now we have new juicy details to look at.
V Scopper has revealed some interesting details about BioShock 4 on X. The leaker claims that BioShock 4’s main plot revolves around investigating “the regime behind a falling utopia in a dense, interconnected city”. This city is expected to be located somewhere in the Antarctic, which will be an apt follow-up to the floating city of New Colombia in Bioshock: Infinite.
The leaker also describes BioShock 4 as a semi-open world immersive sim where player choices impact the story. To add to the immersive sim aspect, BioShock 4 will reportedly feature realistic physics and environmental alteration. So, we can expect destructible environments, which will open up gameplay possibilities involving environmental puzzle solving, traversal, etc.
If the previous BioShock entries are any indication, BioShock 4 will also lean into abilities that will go hand in hand with improved physics and interactive environments. The game is allegedly an “RPG lite”, which hints at a healthy dose of upskilling, crafting weapons, and leveling up abilities.
When it comes to combat, V Scopper claims that enemies in BioShock 4 are intelligent, as they will tactically react and adapt to player actions and choices. A previous leak revealed that the main enemies that players are expected to face in BioShock 4 are called Flushers.
All in all, BioShock 4, being a semi-open world immersive sim with an Antarctica setting, RPG elements, smart enemies, improved physics, and dynamic environments, fills us with excitement. It's too bad that the game is unlikely to be released in 2026. Even a 2027 release date seems too hopeful. In the meantime, we can look forward to BioShock creator Kevin Levin’s Judas, which will likely release before BioShock 4.
