BYD has initiated the delivery process for its luxury electric vehicle, the Yangwang U9. Priced at 1.68 million yuan ($), the U9 has impressive performance specifications, including a top speed of 309.19 km/h (mph) and a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 2.36 seconds. The vehicle's interior has sleek carbon fiber accents. To address potential delivery delays, BYD has implemented a points-based compensation system.

Warren Buffet-backed BYD has confirmed production kickoff and upcoming deliveries for its high-performance electric vehicle, the Yangwang U9, stating that consumers will start receiving their vehicles in late August.

The vehicle, priced at 1.68 million yuan ($), has quite the feature list. Going by the numbers alone, the car has impressive performance specifications, including a claimed top speed of 309.19 kmph (192.1 mph) a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 2.36 seconds, and a range of 450 km. These numbers position the U9 against EVs like the Tesla Model S Plaid, which has a claimed 321km/h top speed and class-leading acceleration scores. BYD's U9 was spotted in a video earlier this July, running laps at the Nürburgring circuit (Germany) and tackling corners with ease.

To mitigate potential delivery delays, BYD is implementing a points-based compensation system. Customers experiencing delivery delays will get points, redeemable for official merchandise (although it doesn't say what). Additionally, BYD has extended the warranty for the U9's "three-electric" system to cover the entire lifespan of the vehicle, regardless of ownership changes.

The Yangwang U9's interior features extensive carbon fiber accents and a driver-focused cockpit equipped with multiple screens. The vehicle also incorporates a cutting-edge powertrain and innovative suspension systems. Furthermore, the U9 can fast-charge from 30% to 80% in 10 minutes, and slow charging can replenish 30%-80% in 7 hours.

The Yangwang U9 is equipped with a "world's first" Yisifang U-shaped motor, offering high torque and response compared to traditional supercars. Additionally, the vehicle features a carbon fiber roof and rear diffuser, with an optional racing rear wing for enhanced aerodynamic performance. The car will be available in three colors at launch - Moon Silver, Argyle Purple, and Cloud Red.
