BYD Yangwang EV sedan: First BYD with solid-state battery coming in a 5.5-meter-long Maybach S-Class luxury car
There is no final name yet for the new flagship EV. Internally, the model has been in development under the codename “HU” for three years. The EV has now been spotted testing on Chinese roads for the first time.
Yangwang stands not only for absolute luxury, but also for the integration of the most advanced technologies into a BYD vehicle. The new model is therefore also expected to feature “disruptive technologies.” One of them will likely be a solid-state battery—the first in a BYD vehicle. The car is also expected to feature flash-charging technology. And it will be BYD’s first vehicle with rear-hinged doors like those on a Rolls-Royce.
With the new Yangwang, BYD is pushing even further into the ultra-elite segment. Accordingly, the luxury car is expected to carry a very high price tag: According to rumors, the EV will cost $300,000. The 5.5-meter-long Maybach S-Class rival is reportedly set to be officially unveiled in October. BYD itself had announced some time ago that its first car with a solid-state battery would arrive in 2027. The launch will therefore presumably take place next year, although an initial presentation could already take place now.
Visually, the spotted car features a type of camouflage wrap and has a very angular front end. On the technology side, it has a lidar system at the front, while BYD’s quad-motor e4 platform is also expected to make a return. An unveiling is imminent.
