BMW has shared the specifications of its latest electric SUV, the iX3, on its website. The mid-range all-wheel-drive variant, known as the 50 xDrive, delivers up to 500 miles on a single charge. A more affordable rear-wheel-drive version, the iX3 40, will arrive in 2026 and extend the range even beyond 600 miles. They are part of a new generation of BMW cars with a new design, engineering, and software called Neue Klasse.
Compared to the older BMWs, the 50 xDrive is cleaner and simpler in style. Its minimalist design, inspired by Lamborghini designer Marcelo Gandini, can be observed in its hidden window seals, pop-out door handles, slim lights, and optional glowing kidney grilles. Similar to the BMW X3 SUV, the 50 xDrive measures approximately 4.8 meters in length and 1.6 meters in height. It has 20-inch wheels and glossy black trim.
This sixth generation of BMW introduces a new electric system with some major advances. For example, the electric SUV can add 257 miles of range in just 10 minutes of charging thanks to the 800-volt electrical architecture. It can also power equipment and supply electricity for home use.
BMW is using a cylindrical battery cell design, which is similar to Tesla’s approach. It charges 30 percent faster and offers 20 percent higher energy density than older models.
The 50 xDrive has a combined maximum power of 463 bhp and peak torque of 645 Nm, allowing it to sprint from 0 to 62 mph in 4.9 seconds. It comes in three trim levels: Standard, which costs £ 58,755 in the UK; M Sport, featuring a sportier look, body kit, and ambient lighting; and the flagship M Sport Pro. The first deliveries in the UK are expected in March 2026.
