Asus showing interest in acquiring HTC
A HTC takeover has been increasingly lucrative after its mild launch of the recent One M9 that had a negative impact on the company's shares. Now, Asus chairman Johnny Shih has expressed interest in a recent meeting to possibly acquire HTC.
According to Shih, Asus must weigh its options to decide if an acquisition of HTC would even make sense despite the high interest. It's worth noting that Asus has grown largely by themselves and with no major acquisitions in the past. Thus, such a takeover would be new to Asus and a riskier move in general.
Share prices for HTC have dropped by nearly a half since the launch of the One M9. In addition to losing 93 million USD this past second quarter, the Taiwanese manufacturer had to cut back its smartphone production by 30 percent. HTC expects to launch its "Hero" phone by this October to bring the company back on track.
