As reported by Theandroidsoul.com, Asus will soon launch a brand new Zenfone outside of the increasingly crowded Zenfone 4 family. Called the Zenfone V, the Gorilla Glass-covered smartphone will carry the model name V520KL and sport mid-range hardware including:
- 5.2-inch AMOLED 1080p display
- Snapdragon 820 SoC w/ Adreno 530 GPU
- 4 GB of LPDDR4 RAM
- 32 GB eMMC w/ MicroSD support up to 256 GB
- 3000 mAh non-removable battery
- 5.77 x 2.86 x 0.3 inch (146.6 x 72.7 x 7.62 mm)
- 5.19 oz (147.2 g)
The full specifications list can be found on the official Zenfone V product page here. Unfortunately for users in the US, this specific V520KL model will launch only for Verizon users and excludes those under AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, and others. It is unknown if the smartphone can be easily unlocked for other GSM networks or if Asus will simply launch an unlocked Zenfone V under yet another name at a later date. Verizon itself has yet to list the smartphone on its website and so prices are still unknown as of this writing.
Otherwise, the core hardware appears run-of-the-mill including its front fingerprint sensor and single rear camera. Asus is still a staunch supporter of AMOLED as the panel can be found on certain Zenfone 3 and Zenfone 4 models. While contrast will be similar to the OLED panel of the iPhone X, colors and clarity will very likely pale in comparison. Overall, the Zenfone V is expected to be just as small as the budget Zenfone 4 Max but with vastly improved specifications and cameras.
