Looking at the charts above, it’s clear that the ZenBook 14 UM425 is an excellent option for anyone who’s looking to get a portable notebook with good build quality, performance, and battery life. It also makes a strong case for being the most value-for-money option in ASUS’ ZenBook 14 lineup. If support for Thunderbolt 3 and discrete graphics are not priorities for you, the choice is clear.

Crucially, this performance review illustrates the advances AMD has made in catching up and even surpassing Intel. However, with Intel having just announced its riposte in the form of its new Tiger Lake processors, the battle is only just heating up.

Even more than the ZenBook 14 UX425, this AMD-Ryzen based ZenBook 14 UM425 is an excellent everyday portable laptop with a premium metallic construction, compact and lightweight form-factor, good inputs, IO and screen options, and improved performance and battery life over the Intel variants. Furthermore, this is also more affordable than the Intel models, but beware that it doesn't get the same keyboard, the same base-level display or the same IO.

The Asus ZenBook UX425J might not break speed records, but it’s got enough performance to handle everyday workloads – from loads of browser tabs and your key media and chat apps to Office tools and even some light photo-editing. The UX425J further improves its prospects with stonking battery life, slimline design, a bright and accurate display, and a snappy keyboard.

ASUS ZenBook 14 UM425’s IPS panel (LM140LF-3L03 (NCP0035)) has a Full HD resolution, good contrast ratio, comfortable viewing angles, and a decent color coverage (92% of sRGB). Also, its colors become accurate-enough for professional work, after our Gaming and Web design profile is installed. And although it uses PWM for brightness settings below 67 nits, the frequency is high enough to ensure a reasonably comfortable experience during long hours of use.

This ZenBook 14 UM425QA is a good-value performance ultrabook. It's significantly more powerful than the average portable laptop that you can get for under 1000 USD/EUR these days and offers a more advanced internal cooling module, while not sacrificing on portability, style, practicality, or battery life. At the same time, the Ryzen H configuration is somewhat unbalanced with only Vega iGPU graphics, and I'm not a fan of this sort of design that blows the hot air straight into the screen. But if you do need that fast CPU in this sort of portable chassis and you're OK with the quirks mentioned throughout this article, this could be right for you.
