Before we started this review, we were not really sure what to compare it with. Given the fact that the VivoBook brand was not really known for its high-quality builds, nor its supreme battery life, we expected to see a budget all-rounder intended mainly for multimedia consumption and school work. However, once we have taken it into our hands, our perception of the S14 S435 changed dramatically.

The Asus VivoBook S14 is compact, well built and good looking, and it pairs a solid 1080p screen with a reasonable everyday processor and great battery life. It's easy to find more processing power elsewhere, though, and the keyboard is loud and feels a little harsh.

Having used this updated Asus VivoBook S435EA model for the last weeks, I feel that this is a solid mid-range product and something you should consider in the $700-$900 price segment, where this will most likely end up with future discounts. Compared to other VivoBooks, this S435 series benefits from a higher-quality screen, longer battery life, and improved IO, as well as gets a finger-sensor, USB-C charging, fast wireless, and a hardware platform well suited for daily use and multitasking. The keyboard and clickpad, on the other hand, are my single important nit with this series; they’re OK, but not on par with what Asus puts on their higher-tier ZenBook lineups.

Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.

14.00:
14 inch display size represents a middle ground between the small subnotebook formats and the screens of the standard 15 inch laptops.
The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, provides good resolutions with usable detail sizes, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact.
In the past, 14-inch devices were very rare, but now they are the standard for laptops after the 15-inchers.

70%: This rating is poor. More than three quarters of the models are rated better. That is rather not a purchase recommendation. Even if verbal ratings in this area do not sound that bad ("sufficient" or "satisfactory"), they are usually euphemisms that disguise a classification as a below-average laptop.
