Asus Transformer Book Flip TP200SA (32 GB) Convertible Review

For the original German review, see here.
Our US colleagues had the 11.6-incher in the test first: The affordable convertible that is sold for a price starting at 350 Euros (~$379) in Germany was awarded with a purchase recommendation:
For the given price point, the Asus Transformer Book Flip TP200SA is hard to beat and definitely worth taking a look at.
Color-rich IPS panel (unfortunately, PWM at 190 Hz, see Display chapter below), strong battery life, decent speakers and USB 3.0 Gen 1 (Type C). The bundle is sold for $350. But wait a second; shops are selling the entry-model with 2 GB of RAM (vs. 4 GB) and 32 GB MMC (vs. 64 GB) at the same Euro price in Germany. Is it really recommendable then?
Yes (conditionally), because the positive unique features remain to be the IPS panel and the USB 3.1 Gen. 1 (Type C) port. None of the named rivals have a Type C on board. Then again, two more expensive devices sport a 500 GB hard drive.
Acer's Aspire R11 R3-131T-C122 (Celeron N3050/2GB/32GB) is only shipped with a TN panel for a price starting at 290 Euros (~$314), just like HP's Stream 11 X360 (no longer in retail) and Pavilion 11-n070eg x360 (399 Euros, ~$432, Celeron N3050, 4 GB, 500 GB hard drive). An exception is Lenovo's ThinkPad Yoga 11e (499 Euros, ~$541, Celeron N2940, 4 GB, 500 GB) with a color-rich IPS panel.
Consequently, Lenovo's ThinkPad Yoga 11e would be the best choice. However, the additional 150 Euros (~$162) puts it in another league; no-one spends 500 Euros (~$542) without a second thought. We cannot verify whether this device suffers under PWM for the lack of measurement.
The smaller eMMC of 32 GB in conjunction with the tight working memory does not affect the application benchmarks either positively or negatively, although the Write 4 K rates in CrystalDiskMark are doubled. Nevertheless, the limited memory capacity proved to be a massive drawback. 3DMark 2013 completely refused to run; PCMark 7 could first be initiated after we uninstalled diverse preloaded programs.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)
Screen flickering / PWM detected | 190 Hz | ≤ 90 % brightness setting | |
The display backlight flickers at 190 Hz (Likely utilizing PWM) Flickering detected at a brightness setting of 90 % and below. There should be no flickering or PWM above this brightness setting. The frequency of 190 Hz is relatively low, so sensitive users will likely notice flickering and experience eyestrain at the stated brightness setting and below. In comparison: 53 % of all tested devices do not use PWM to dim the display. If PWM was detected, an average of 19210 (minimum: 5 - maximum: 3846000) Hz was measured. |

Verdict
The Transformer Book Flip TP200SA is far from perfect, but the buyer might just be able to turn a blind eye or two at a price of 350 Euros (~$379). In fact, turning a blind eye is meant literally because although the IPS panel has nice colors and wide viewing angles, brightness is PWM controlled and that at a relatively low frequency. Not everyone will notice that, but when they do they should make use of their return rights.
