There’s much to like about the Transformer 3 Pro – it’s attractive, connectivity is great, and it feels every bit the premium two-in-one.

The Asus Transformer 3 Pro is a competitor that takes almost all of its cues from the Microsoft Surface Pro 4. It offers better connectivity, with a gorgeous screen and folio keyboard that make it an attractive option.

The Transformer 3 Pro is an impressive device. It may not be terribly original, but it makes a number of subtle improvements to the Microsoft’s design, that in some ways make it a better Surface than an actual Surface.

The Transformer 3 Pro is an impressive device. It may not be terribly original, but it makes a number of subtle improvements to Microsoft’s design, which in some ways make it a better "Surface" than an actual Surface.

The reality, however, is somewhat different: the Transformer 3 Pro is the victim of its own power, delivering poor battery life that undoes much of its portable purpose. The inclusion of keyboard and stylus is a great addition - but at an overall price point that doesn't notably undercut the established Surface Pro 4, we're left scratching our heads at exactly how Asus expects to outsmart Microsoft here. Perhaps the lower-power Intel Core i5 model makes more sense.

The most disappointing part of the Transformer 3 Pro, though, is its battery life. Lasting just 4hrs 20mins in our continuous video-playback test, where the screen brightness is set to our predefined measurement of 170cd/m2, this isn’t a device that’s built for long periods away from the mains. It’s definitely not the worst battery score I’ve seen, but compared to the Surface Pro 4, which lasted 5hrs 56mins under the same conditions, it’s not exactly great.

Model: If you are someone looking to buy a Surface Pro or something similar, you are in luck. This year there are plenty of manufacturers providing Surface Pro alikes to the market and Asus is no exception. Asus Transformer 3 Pro T303UA-GN043T is a 2-in-1 model which provides good connectivity by having a USB Type-C, USB 3. full-sized HDMI and also a microSD slot. Therefore it is easy to say that you are covered for a few years in the future. Having a USB-3 port is pretty neat, because you don’t have to spend extra on adaptors. The device is light and weighs around (without keyboard) 800 grams. It has a very sleek and attractive look.
Now, when you want to go for a device like this, what matters is the ergonomics of the input devices. 12.6 inch tablet comes with a folio keyboard, which is according to most of the reviews better than what Microsoft provides with Surface Pro 4. The keyboard has enough travel distance, so you don’t have to compromise your comfort. But, since it is connected with magnets, there might be times where it dislodges and you have to connect it again.
The screen is a highlight of the device with 2,880 x 1,920 resolution. It’s a tricky device to use outside in the sun due to its maximum screen brightness of 292 cd/m². Considering the fact that most of the users of this device are going to be business users looking for mobility, this could be an issue. But other than the brightness, there is nothing much to criticize about the screen.
When you look for actual user reviews online, you will see that most of the users are complaining about the fan noise. Reason for this is that the device has a thin case and small air-vents. Fans keep running all the time, which might be an issue for some users. But it is also pointed out that they are not that audible.
Dual front-facing speakers are fine, meaning you can have your daily netflix stream, watch some videos, but don’t expect miracles. At high levels, sound gets distorted, so better carry headphones with.
Who should be using this device? The Asus Transformer 3 Pro T303UA-GN043T provides good versatility but lacks the mobility that would satisfy business users. The average battery life is only about 5 hours. Therefore the device suits well for home users who are looking for something lite for taking care of daily tasks like web-surfing or office applications. Power users or users looking for more mobility should look into other models from Microsoft, Dell, or other SKUs from Asus.

This range of display format is largely the upper limit for tablets and the lower limit for subnotebooks.
The advantage of subnotebooks is that the entire laptop can be small in size and therefore easily portable. The tiny display has the added advantage of requiring little power, which further improves battery life and thus mobility. The disadvantage is that reading texts is exhausting for the eyes. High resolutions, which one is used to from a standard laptop, are almost not usable.
The same applies to tablets in this size range.

77.75%: This rating is not earth-shattering. This rating must actually be seen as average, since there are about as many devices with worse ratings as better ones. A purchase recommendation can only be seen with a lot of goodwill, unless it is about websites that generally rate strictly.
