Asus Transformer Book T100CHI-FG003B

The best of both worlds is somewhat feasible with the Asus Transformer Book T100CHI-FG003B in terms of beauty and strength. Despite slim profile achieved from a solid piece of aluminium, the device is rigid. The chamfered edges give a brilliant highlight. There is a smart magnetic hinge that holds the detachable keyboard that is designed for typing comfort. The Asus Transformer Book T100CHI-FG003B is very quiet thanks to the fan-less design yet excelling in dissipating heat. Display on the laptop is a 10.1 inch 16:10 Full HD panel with LED backlight technology. Users will enjoy the sharp and vivid display even if the screen real-estate might be small for some. The Windows 8.1 device comes with an Intel Bay Trail-T quad-core processor clocked at 1.46 GHz, 2 GB on-board RAM and the integrated Intel HD Graphics. There are a couple of storage options ranging from 32 GB eMMC to 128 GB eMMC. The Asus Transformer Book T100CHI-FG003B comes with a rear 5 MP camera and a secondary front facing with 2 MP. Audio quality is decent with the built-in speakers but do not expect too much from them. Other features include a card reader, Bluetooth 4.0, a micro HDMI out and micro USB. Battery life is impressive with the Asus Transformer Book T100CHI-FG003B sporting a 30 Wh cell.

While it may sit in the middle of 10in hybrid range on price, the Asus Transformer Book T100 Chi is classier than the average. Improvements to design, screen quality and keyboard quality make it a neat choice if you don’t mind working on a small screen, with a small keyboard and certainly justify the extra price over the cheapest models.

This is a good upgrade to the Transformer Book T100. The body design and materials have taken a leap forward, it's long-lasting despite the absence of a battery in the keyboard dock, and it performs fine as long as you stick to basic tasks (web browsing, productivity, multimedia playback...). Unfortunately, it has very little storage for your personal files, unfaithful colours and not a single full-size USB port.

We're a little underwhelmed by the Asus Transformer Book Chi T100. It's not particularly light or compact, and it lacks the ports that would make it a legitimately useful laptop, which seems like a step backwards to us compared to the previous Transformer Book. Moreover, the basic model of the Microsoft Surface 3, which also has 64GB of storage, costs just £20 more and has a full-sized USB port, a better screen and a faster chipset.

70% Asus' well-built budget Windows 8 tablet comes with a wireless keyboard and a low £400 price tag
Source: Tech Advisor English Archive.org version
Promoted as a 2-in-1 tablet and laptop solution, the little Transformer Book T100 Chi is simply a Windows 8 tablet with a clip-on wireless keyboard. Put together the result looks quite smart and we cannot fault build and finish quality at the price. However it is compromised as a laptop by feeling too cramped in working screen space, with a frustrating sleep-happy keyboard and its tiny awkward keys. And as a tablet it fails to be any more endearing than every other unloved Windows tablet before it.

If you really want a hybrid 2-in-1 laptop, there is nothing necessarily wrong with the T100 Chi. You do get a quality keyboard dock, and the tablet section slots in well, held by two strong magnets. However, you were looking for a tablet and thought a 2-in-1 may be worth the extra cash, you would be advised to invest your money in a larger tablet like an iPad or the Nexus 9.

The Transformer Book Chi T100 is one of the sleekest and lightest 10-inch Windows 2-in-1s available in stores and offers competent hardware, a nice screen with digitizer support and long battery life. However, Asus sacrificed some of its practical aspects for beauty and portability, which makes it a niche product with a rather high price tag, and not the excellent bargain its predecessors were.

Asus has got many things right with the T100 Chi. It’s a great overall form factor and the slim metal design is impressive for the price. The keyboard and trackpad are also excellent compared to most tablet keyboards. However, performance is a little sluggish and battery life is poor too. These are just fundamental problems that no amount of hybrid, 2-in-1 trickery can hide.

Source: Tech Advisor English Archive.org version
The 2 in 1 computer, as Microsoft promotes it, is a mobile computer that is neither fish but all too often quite foul, a jack of few trades and master of none. There may be some application for a wobbly screened 15in tablet cum laptop weighing the wrong side of 2.6 kg, but we struggle to think of it. It’s doomed as a tablet in no small part by its low-grade and low-resolution TN display, and as a regular laptop is bested by non-touchscreen models at half the price with better specifications.

80% Asus Transformer Book Flip TP200SA review: Flippin' good value
Source: Pocket Lint English Archive.org version
Do you want a basic laptop to take out and about with you for a bit of work or play? If you have a little patience then the Flip really is a winning combo. For less than a third of the price of the latest MacBook you get something not a million miles away from it. Well, sort of — it'll come across like a poor copy of it in every single respect. But then we'll just refer you back to the price.

It's a shame that the TP200SA's performance problems are so numerous. I initially found it a nice little laptop to work with. For word processing and a bit of internet usage, it did the job. It might make you wait a second to open a new tab or switch windows, but when you consider its low price there's a lot to like. It feels pretty sturdy, unlike a lot of budget laptops which feel as though they’re barely holding together as your fingers hit the keys. Add to that the ability to use it in tablet mode and the TP200SA is a pretty good deal in principle.

C heap laptops generally don’t equate to a solid physical design. The Asus TP200SA however, is remarkably well made for a laptop with an RRP of $599. Compact with an 11.6” screen and weighing only 1.2kg, it will slip into a satchel bag easily, as will its compact power supply, which is about the size of a large USB charger.

The Asus Transformer Book Flip TP200SA is a good convertible-hybrid at a fair price, with solid build quality, a wide variety of I/O ports, and impressive battery life. The display is sharp, but it could be brighter, and the system's overall performance was on the low end. It does a decent job at the usual tasks like Web browsing and watching videos, but running too many programs at once slows things down, and storage is relatively small. The Dell Inspiron 11 3000 Series 2-in-1 (3147) remains our Editors' Choice for entry-level, convertible-hybrid laptops for its superior performance, much higher storage capacity, and comfortable design, though it will cost you $100 more.

At $349, the Asus Transformer Flip TP200SA is an enticing 2-in-1 notebook, but unless your needs are very basic or you're on a tight budget, you'd be better served paying a little more for a machine with a little more power. Asus Transformer 3 Pro T303UA-GN043T

If you are someone looking to buy a Surface Pro or something similar, you are in luck. This year there are plenty of manufacturers providing Surface Pro alikes to the market and Asus is no exception. Asus Transformer 3 Pro T303UA-GN043T is a 2-in-1 model which provides good connectivity by having a USB Type-C, USB 3. full-sized HDMI and also a microSD slot. Therefore it is easy to say that you are covered for a few years in the future. Having a USB-3 port is pretty neat, because you don’t have to spend extra on adaptors. The device is light and weighs around (without keyboard) 800 grams. It has a very sleek and attractive look. Now, when you want to go for a device like this, what matters is the ergonomics of the input devices. 12.6 inch tablet comes with a folio keyboard, which is according to most of the reviews better than what Microsoft provides with Surface Pro 4. The keyboard has enough travel distance, so you don’t have to compromise your comfort. But, since it is connected with magnets, there might be times where it dislodges and you have to connect it again. The screen is a highlight of the device with 2,880 x 1,920 resolution. It’s a tricky device to use outside in the sun due to its maximum screen brightness of 292 cd/m². Considering the fact that most of the users of this device are going to be business users looking for mobility, this could be an issue. But other than the brightness, there is nothing much to criticize about the screen. When you look for actual user reviews online, you will see that most of the users are complaining about the fan noise. Reason for this is that the device has a thin case and small air-vents. Fans keep running all the time, which might be an issue for some users. But it is also pointed out that they are not that audible. Dual front-facing speakers are fine, meaning you can have your daily netflix stream, watch some videos, but don’t expect miracles. At high levels, sound gets distorted, so better carry headphones with. Who should be using this device? The Asus Transformer 3 Pro T303UA-GN043T provides good versatility but lacks the mobility that would satisfy business users. The average battery life is only about 5 hours. Therefore the device suits well for home users who are looking for something lite for taking care of daily tasks like web-surfing or office applications. Power users or users looking for more mobility should look into other models from Microsoft, Dell, or other SKUs from Asus. Hands-on article by Ümit Yılmaz Güneş

Source: Pocket Lint English Archive.org version
The reality, however, is somewhat different: the Transformer 3 Pro is the victim of its own power, delivering poor battery life that undoes much of its portable purpose. The inclusion of keyboard and stylus is a great addition - but at an overall price point that doesn't notably undercut the established Surface Pro 4, we're left scratching our heads at exactly how Asus expects to outsmart Microsoft here. Perhaps the lower-power Intel Core i5 model makes more sense.

The most disappointing part of the Transformer 3 Pro, though, is its battery life. Lasting just 4hrs 20mins in our continuous video-playback test, where the screen brightness is set to our predefined measurement of 170cd/m2, this isn’t a device that’s built for long periods away from the mains. It’s definitely not the worst battery score I’ve seen, but compared to the Surface Pro 4, which lasted 5hrs 56mins under the same conditions, it’s not exactly great.

83.3% Asus Transformer Book T302CA-FL010T Convertible Review | Notebookcheck
Steeplechase. Asus treats its 12.5-inch Transformer Book to Intel's Skylake generation and also installs a second battery into the keyboard dock. This gives the new Transformer Book longer stamina. However, the newly gained performance cannot really be utilized.

Asus: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. is a major Taiwanese computer hardware manufacturer based in Taipei, founded in 1989. Under the Asus brand name, the company manufactures a wide range of products, including laptops, desktops, motherboards, graphics cards, monitors, smartphones and networking equipment, complete systems and PC components for end users.

Under the ROG (Republic of Gamers) brand name, ASUS manufactures gaming laptops known by gamers for their powerful specifications, dedicated graphics cards, high refresh rate displays and advanced cooling systems.

Beyond gaming, a wide range of notebooks are offered for different needs and budgets, from ultra-slim and lightweight ultrabooks to versatile 2-in-1 convertibles and budget-friendly options. In 2023, Asus had a 7% global market share of the PC market.

Customer satisfaction with ASUS notebooks concerns performance, the features, and the good price-performance ratio of ASUS notebooks. However, as with any brand, there are occasional reports of problems such as overheating, driver compatibility, or build quality issues.

Only some 3D games with very low demands are playable with these cards.

Intel HD Graphics (Bay Trail):

Integrated GPU for tablet and notebook Bay Trail SoCs. Based on the Ivy Bridge GPU with four Execution Units and support for DirectX 11.

Non demanding games should be playable with these graphics cards.

Intel HD Graphics 5500: Integrated graphics card (GT2) in the Core processors of the Broadwell U-series (15 W TDP).

Intel HD Graphics (Braswell): Integrated graphics card in the Intel Braswell series (Celeron and Pentium) processors. Based on the Broadwell architecture (Intel Gen8) supporting DirectX 11.2. Depending on the processor offers 12 or 16 shader cores (EU) and different clock speed.

Intel HD Graphics 515: Integrated GPU (GT2) with 24 EUs found on Core-m-CPUs of the Skylake generation (4,5 W TDP).

Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.

Intel HD Graphics 520: Integrated GPU (GT2) with 24 EUs found on some Skylake CPU models (15 W ULV series).

Intel Atom: The Intel Atom series is a 64-Bit (not every model supports 64bit) microprocessor for cheap and small notebooks (so called netbooks), MIDs, or UMPCs. The speciality of the new architecture is the "in order" execution (instead of the usual and faster "out of order" execution). Therefore, the transistor count of the Atom series is much lower and, thus, cheaper to produce. Furthermore, the power consumption is very low. The performance per Megahertz is therfore worse than the old Pentium 3M (1,2 GHz on par with a 1.6 GHz Atom).

Z3775: Soc with an integrated quad core Atom processor clocked at 1.46 - 2.39 GHz, an Intel HD Graphics GPU and a dual channel LPDDR3-1067 memory controller.

Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.

5500U: Broadwell-based ULV (ultra low voltage) dual-core processor for notebooks and ultrabooks. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 5500 GPU and is manufactured in 14 nm.

Intel Celeron:

N3050: SoC with an integrated dual core Atom processor clocked at 1.6 - 2.16 GHz, an Intel HD Graphics GPU and a dual channel DDR3L-1600 memory controller.

Intel Core i5:

6200U: Skylake-based ULV dual-core processor for thin notebooks and ultrabooks. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 520 GPU and is manufactured in 14 nm.

Intel Core m3:

6Y30: Skylake-based ULV dual-core processor for tablets and 2-in-1 notebooks. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 515 GPU and is manufactured in 14 nm.

0.57 kg:

2.6 kg:

With this weight, a laptop is rather heavier than average. Devices in this range shine more with screen size and performance than with mobility.

74.3%: This rating is poor. More than three quarters of the models are rated better. That is rather not a purchase recommendation. Even if verbal ratings in this area do not sound that bad ("sufficient" or "satisfactory"), they are usually euphemisms that disguise a classification as a below-average laptop.
