There’s plenty to like about the Asus ROG Strix G15. In fact, I’d go so far as to say it’s the gaming laptop to beat in 2021 so far. It’s reasonably priced, faster than anything I tested in 2020 and has a decent display as well. Just watch out for those cheaper models, which utilise a lower quality 144Hz display. The only caveat to this recommendation is that the G15 is only the first in the new wave of RTX 3000 based laptops and you may want to wait until the dust settles before making your choice. My guess, however, is that the G15 will still be there or thereabouts when it comes to the final reckoning.

ASUS ROG Strix G15 G513’s 300Hz IPS panel (Sharp LQ156M1JW25 (SHP152C)) has a Full HD resolution, good contrast ratio, and comfortable viewing angles. Moreover, it is able to display 98% of the colors found on the Web, and it doesn’t flicker at any brightness level. Here, the pixel response time is very fast, which is of utmost importance for gamers. Interestingly, you can use this laptop for creative work, as well, because our Gaming and Web design profile manages to get the color representation very accurate with an Average dE of 0.6. Unfortunately, the more pedantic users will find the nonuniform colors across the area of the display a bit unsettling.

The party piece of the Asus ROG Strix G15 is its internals. This model comes with an eight core Ryzen 9 5900 HX. It runs at around 35 watts typically, but it can be pushed up to 80 watts in some scenarios depending on your profile settings. Even if you leave it in the default performance mode which does put it at around 35 watts the performance is really impressive. In cine bench 15 and 20 it easily beats Intel’s ultimate i9 10980 HK which uses a lot more power, and it even pulls ahead of the desktop core i9 9900k in a single core test. What this bascially means is that the Asus ROG Strix G15 has plenty of horsepower for pretty much any task.

15-inch display variants are the standard and are used for more than half of all laptops.
The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, often allows high resolutions and thus offers rich details on the screen, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact - simply the standard compromise.

100%: This model is obviously considered exceptional by the testers. There are almost no laptops that are rated this well.
