There’s plenty to like about the Asus ROG Strix G15. In fact, I’d go so far as to say it’s the gaming laptop to beat in 2021 so far. It’s reasonably priced, faster than anything I tested in 2020 and has a decent display as well. Just watch out for those cheaper models, which utilise a lower quality 144Hz display. The only caveat to this recommendation is that the G15 is only the first in the new wave of RTX 3000 based laptops and you may want to wait until the dust settles before making your choice. My guess, however, is that the G15 will still be there or thereabouts when it comes to the final reckoning.

ASUS ROG Strix G15 G513’s 300Hz IPS panel (Sharp LQ156M1JW25 (SHP152C)) has a Full HD resolution, good contrast ratio, and comfortable viewing angles. Moreover, it is able to display 98% of the colors found on the Web, and it doesn’t flicker at any brightness level. Here, the pixel response time is very fast, which is of utmost importance for gamers. Interestingly, you can use this laptop for creative work, as well, because our Gaming and Web design profile manages to get the color representation very accurate with an Average dE of 0.6. Unfortunately, the more pedantic users will find the nonuniform colors across the area of the display a bit unsettling.

The party piece of the Asus ROG Strix G15 is its internals. This model comes with an eight core Ryzen 9 5900 HX. It runs at around 35 watts typically, but it can be pushed up to 80 watts in some scenarios depending on your profile settings. Even if you leave it in the default performance mode which does put it at around 35 watts the performance is really impressive. In cine bench 15 and 20 it easily beats Intel’s ultimate i9 10980 HK which uses a lot more power, and it even pulls ahead of the desktop core i9 9900k in a single core test. What this bascially means is that the Asus ROG Strix G15 has plenty of horsepower for pretty much any task.

Of course. Is it a solid laptop? Absolutely, it offers a great system with a lot of great features, terrific aesthetics, and solid build quality. So if you are looking for a gaming laptop with the new Ryzen 9 generation, reliable RTX 3070, 32GB of RAM rather than 16GB, and 1TB SSD rather than 512GB without having to worry about upgrading RAM or storage, look no further. For what the processor and GPU give you combined with a full-HD 300Hz IPS screen and those nifty features like per-Key RGB keyboard will make your gaming experience much more fun and smooth.

The ROG Strix G15 is an excellent addition to Asus’ roster of gaming laptops. The RTX 3070 is a fast, capable GPU for mainstream gaming and eSports, and the AMD Ryzen 7 is a great chip for content-creation and better than anything Intel offers at this price. Elsewhere, the G15 has a good screen, impressive thermal performance, a great keyboard and it even manages to offer decent battery life - a rare thing for a gaming laptop. The relatively affordable price does mean that this rig doesn’t have the best range of features, and it’s a little thicker and heavier than many other machines. Build quality could be a little better, too. None of those issues are dealbreakers, though, especially when it comes to mainstream gaming and eSports play – and in those key departments, the G15 impresses.

A great bit of kit that's solidly built and powerful enough to make light work of modern games. Great screen, battery life and noise and cooling handling lead its pros. Its only irks are limited connections and the lack of webcam. But, all told, it's one of the best gaming laptops we've seen.

The latest generation of ROG Strix G15 laptops, and the G513RW in particular, aren't aiming to be the absolute best gaming laptops out there, but are more about striking a balance between cost, features, and performance. This unit benefits from an efficient processor and high-resolution display along with current-gen standards for everything from RAM to storage to communications. Gaming performance is pretty good at 2560x1440 as long as you don't want ray traced effects turned up to the highest quality. If you have the budget for it, there's enough power here to keep you happy for a few years. While not exactly light, the ROG Strix G15 is compact and portable enough to be your everyday laptop and it can fulfil multiple roles. The keyboard and trackpad are comfortable, and the speakers are a pleasant surprise. I'm not a huge fan of the styling, and I would have liked better port placement as well as better use of the space taken up by media playback controls. The clip-on webcam is not ideal but is better than having one below the screen.

The Asus ROG Zephyrus G15 (2022) is a stellar gaming laptop with a couple of hiccups that hold it back. Sure, it has great battery life, a comfortable keyboard, good audio, and a nice display, but it gets absurdly hot and all for naught — its GPU isn’t up to par. Check out the Legion 7i, which you can get for a cheaper price ($1,859) and get stronger performance as well as a brighter display. However, you wouldn’t get the same battery life, a punchy keyboard, or speakers that are truly this bumpin’. If you gloss over some numbers, the Zephyrus G15 is a great driver for your gaming needs.

All in all, this updated 2022 Strix G15 earns our recommendation as a competitive all-around laptop with good runtimes and solid performance in demanding loads and games. Just make sure you’re OK with those design quirks that affect its daily-use practicality, and consider raising up the back or using a cooling pad for extended gaming sessions. This pretty much wraps up our review of the 2022 Asus ROG Strix G15 G531RW. I’d love to hear your thoughts and feedback down below, so don’t hesitate to get in touch for any feedback or questions.

The ROG Strix series gaming laptops have also been easy recommendations for their sweet balance between performance, ergonomics and aesthetics. The ROG Strix G15 is no different and excels at everything the Strix series is synonymous with, now performing even better with AMD’s new Ryzen 6000 series chip inside. However, if you’re looking to upgrade from a previous Strix-series machine, I’d suggest you to wait it out as while there is a performance boost, the minor issues like the lack of a built-in webcam and the average battery life are still here.

For the 2022 generation, the ROG Strix G lineup is Asus's main offer of the latest AMD and Nvidia hardware platforms, as the Scar 2022s are Intel-exclusives now. Having used this review unit for the last weeks, I find it to be an aesthetically simplified variation of the Scar 15, with some changes in aesthetics, IO, and performance, but similar in overall format, functionality, and capabilities. These AMD Strix G units still have the efficiency and the pricing on their side, but are no longer as competitive in demanding loads and in games compared to the Intel 2022 options. You'll find out why from this detailed review.

It is good to see that ASUS hasn’t gone the easy route and just put a new CPU inside their old laptop. Instead, you now have Wi-Fi 6E for a more stable wireless connection, while the Ethernet port supports 2.5 Gigabit speeds. In addition to that, the laptop still offers a good battery life. Well, good is really an understatement, given the fact that this is a gaming notebook. We are talking about 11 hours of Web browsing or more than 8 hours of video playback. A huge contributor to that is the Adaptive-Sync technology. It means that it runs at 60Hz when high speeds are not needed, and boosts to the full 165Hz when you can take advantage of that. Speaking of the display, ASUS ROG Strix G15 G513R (2022)’s IPS panel (Innolux N156KME-GNA (CMN1540)) has a QHD resolution, comfortable viewing angles, and a good contrast ratio. What is even more impressive, is that it covers 99% of the sRGB color gamut, which makes the image look really attractive.
