Reviews for the Asus G550JK-DS71

The Asus is a strong, smart machine with a great screen and comfortable keyboard, but the concentration on design means that more gaming grunt is available elsewhere – and sometimes for less cash. If performance is priority, then competitors have more bang per buck. If you're searching for a gaming notebook that's got power and looks, it's a good option.

The Asus G550JK offers plenty of CPU and graphics power under its hood, but it's not just gamers who should consider it. If you want a powerful laptop for doing work and being creative, and you want something that won't stand out too much, but also something that isn't boring to look at, then definitely give it a go. On the downside, our unit was loud, and we think the SSD offering is too small.

Gaming laptops are traditionally not built with mobility in mind. However, the Asus g550jk-ds71 is different. The 2.79 cm (1.1 inch) thin laptop is so thin that it can fit in most laptop carry bags. It isn't particularly light but for the hardware it carries around, it is lighter than it should be.
The Asus g550jk-ds71 may not be the best gaming laptop available but it is certainly one of the contenders for that spot. With the GeForce GTX 850M graphics card coupled with the integrated Intel HD Graphics 4600, the machine is capable of handling most modern games with high settings without any lags or hiccups. It doesn't come with an SSD but offers spacious 750 GB of HDD storage space to store all your HD videos, pictures and games. As for the processor, the Asus g550jk-ds71 is powered by an Intel Core i7-4710HQ giving the processing power needed to support hardcore gaming activities.
The 1920 by 1080 pixels 15.6 inch screen provides crisp and clear displays for maximum enjoyment. Overall, the Asus g550jk-ds71 is an excellent gaming laptop for those who don't want to pay an arm and a leg for one. Despite the slightly lower specifications compared to other gaming machines, the Asus g550jk-ds71 proves to be sufficient for an enjoyable gaming experience.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 850M: Upper mid-range graphics card from the GeForce GTX 800M series.
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.

Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.
4700HQ: Haswell-based quad-core processor clocked at 2.4 GHz with Turbo Boost support up to 3.4 GHz. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 4600 GPU and a dual channel DDR3 memory controller.» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.
15.60":
15-inch display variants are the standard and are used for more than half of all laptops.
The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, often allows high resolutions and thus offers rich details on the screen, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact - simply the standard compromise.

With this weight, a laptop is rather heavier than average. Devices in this range shine more with screen size and performance than with mobility.

80%: This rating is not earth-shattering. This rating must actually be seen as average, since there are about as many devices with worse ratings as better ones. A purchase recommendation can only be seen with a lot of goodwill, unless it is about websites that generally rate strictly.
