Asus Eee Pad Transformer Shipments 2nd Only to iPad

Teaser
Data from component suppliers indicate that only the iPad is surpassing the Asus Eee Pad Transformer in units shipped.

Asus has not seen a great demand for the Eee Pad Transfomer in its European and Chinese markets, however that has not stopped them from apparently shipping in excess of 400,000 units of the device in the month of June. This is in excess of the 300,000 unit target they had established at the beginning of the month.

Asus CEO Jerry Shen indicated last month that the company had reduced their outlook from the 400,000 Transformer units they shipped in April and May to only 300,000 units for June. With the units allegedly overstocked in certain channels, the outlook was tempered by an anticipated reduced demand in the month of June. However, component suppliers have indicated that Asus has continued executing purchase orders that would show the same shipment rate as in preceding months.

If Asus is able to maintain this pace, their annual shipment totals will only be exceeded by the iPad 2, making the Transformer the most successful Android tablet shipping this year. Data points to shipments-to-date in excess of 1 million, with a potential for more than 4 million units total being delivered by year's end.

The Asus Eee Pad Transformer features a dual-core Nvidia Tegra 2 Processor capable of rendering video at 1080p, a laptop-style keyboard that can be docked with the tablet, and runs Android's Honeycomb OS.
