With Apple's 'Peek Performance' event just around the corner, there is plenty of speculation about what the company has planned. Supposedly, Apple will release a cheaper monitor and a new compact desktop machine called the Mac Studio. Renders for both have leaked, although the iMac Pro and Mac Pro are now said to have been delayed. There are reports of the Apple M2 being tested in multiple versions of macOS too.

The time has almost come for Apple's next hardware event, scheduled for March 8 at 18:00 UTC. Dubbed as offering 'Peek Performance', the showcase follows last October's event where Apple unveiled the MacBook Pro 14 and MacBook Pro 16. According to Mark Gurman, Apple could use tomorrow's online unveiling to announce the Mac mini and a cheaper alternative to the Pro Display XDR.

Purportedly, the latter is 'ready to go', and we could be offered a 'peek' at it during Apple's pre-recorded video. Gurman adds that Apple hoped to introduce this monitor shortly after it released the MacBook Pro 14 and MacBook Pro 16; development for the monitor finished months ago. Details about the monitor remain elusive, but it could be the rumoured Apple Studio Display.

Incidentally, Luke Miani and Ian Zelbo have published renders for the Studio Display and the Mac Studio. Allegedly, Apple will reveal both tomorrow, although other sources have not confirmed this. Separately, Gurman claims that Apple is already testing its M2 SoC with macOS 12.3, macOS 12.4 and even macOS 13.

Reputedly, the Apple M2 will power this year's MacBook Air and MacBook Pro 13 refreshes. Unfortunately, Gurman states that neither the iMac Pro nor Mac Pro are shipping anytime soon. Potentially, these could ship after one of two hardware rollouts, scheduled between May and June and this autumn, respectively.
