The company specializes in the design and manufacture of cell phones, fixed-line phones, networking and communications solutions, and other telecommunications products. Alcatel is headquartered in Paris, France, and operates worldwide.
The telecommunications equipment manufacturer merged in 2006 to form Alcatel-Lucent. Various business units were sold to other companies, so the Alcatel brand name is used by different companies nowadays. The brand names "Alcatel One Touch" and "Alcatel Idol" are used by the Chinese company TCL for smartphones and tablets.
