We reported last year on several occasions about a potential 2016 Nokia re-entry into the smartphone market. The company's non-compete clause with Microsoft is expected to expire this year and previous rumors point to a new flagship smartphone ready for action as soon as Nokia is legally allowed to launch it without the Microsoft co-branding.
Still, there is evidence that Nokia will utilize up to three new designs under a license that will allow the manufacturer to refit them under the Nokia logo. So far, only the rumored Nokia C1 has made enough of an impact to be considered a serious 2016 contender.
Additional images leaked from Asia show designs allegedly derived from Nokia. If true, the inevitable Nokia smartphone may sport a metal chassis and a 5 to 5.5-inch display, though not much else can be reliably drawn from the pictures.
More information and rumors on the Nokia C1 can be found on our previous article here. It's entirely possible that the manufacturer may be holding out until MWC 2016 next month for an official reveal of the C1 or a full Nokia smartphone lineup.
