Acer's ConceptD 9 Pro is quite an unusual 17.3-inch workstation. The rotating display allows it to double as a graphics tablet. Sketches can be created with the (included) Wacom digital pen. The massive hinges are quite striking. They hold the display firmly in place regardless of the mode, allowing for comfortable pen inputs. The impressive IPS 4K touchscreen display has a good contrast ratio, wide viewing angles, a good brightness level and great colors.
The built-in eight-core Core i9-9980HK CPU can only temporarily maintain a high performance level. After a short stress period, it quickly needs to reduce its clock speed. If desired, the CPU can be easily overclocked thanks to the unlocked multiplier. Unlike the processor, the graphics card can maintain its high boost speeds indefinitely. There are two different variants of the mobile RTX 5000 GPU with different TGPs (150 watts vs. 110 watts). The ConceptD comes with the stronger model. Additionally, Nvidia's product family also includes 3 Max-Q versions of the RTX 5000. Via the Thunderbolt 3 port, an even more powerful, external GPU can be connected.
The installed NVMe SSD not only offers good transfer rates, but also a high capacity (1 TB). On the inside of the laptop, there is a free slot for a secondary M.2 2280 SSD. If two drives are installed, they can operate in RAID 0.
