Archive.org versionThe Acer Predator Triton 300 is suitable for those who want a lightweight gaming laptop at a lower price point. It looks good, the build quality is solid for a thin chassis, and it has decent firepower if you’re not looking to maximize frame rates or play games at the higher settings. Taking into account the price however (RM4799), I would recommend saving up and getting the i5 variant of the Triton 500 for the beefier GPU (RTX 2060) instead if you plan on gaming a lot. You get an overall better gaming experience, a slightly lighter laptop, and better battery life.

Archive.org versionAt first we thought the idea of an 'entry-level gaming laptop' sounded like a contradiction, but with a sensible price and strong spec, plus those gaming extras like Ethernet and 144Hz screen refresh, the Triton 300 should hold lots of appeal for those passionate about gaming but without endless supplies of cash.

Archive.org versionIt’s always enjoyable to see a product get the upper-hand on a significantly more expensive competitor, but does that make the Predator Helios 300 worthwhile? In short, yes. Currently, you can pick up the Acer Predator Helios 300 on sale from Amazon for $1,099. Of the systems included in these tests, the two that came closest to matching the Predator Helios 300 were the Dell G7 15 and the MSI GS65 Stealth. The first of these retails for around $1,803.99 whereas the latter notebook costs $1,699. These higher price tags may come with some extra features and benefits, like the MSI GS65 Stealth’s full metal exterior and more compact form factor, but in terms of raw performance, neither of these more expensive systems best the Acer Predator Helios 300.

Archive.org versionThe Acer Predator Triton 300 is easily one of the best GTX 1650-powered gaming laptops we have seen since last year, especially in terms of CPU and GPU performance, but it’s not without its faults. Its screen could use a bit more colour, its speakers, a lot more volume, and its 2.5-kilogramme build, some slimming down. Luckily, all those flaws can be overlooked if all you care about is consistent performance from its well-stacked internals. The GTX 1650 graphics card inside matches well with the Intel 9th Gen Core i7 CPU to offer a pleasurable gaming experience on most popular AAA titles as long as you’re not adamant about pushing that slider to Ultra in video settings, leave alone VR.

Archive.org versionOf course, there are a couple of downsides – one of which is the hot base when gaming. Then come the I/O. While we are more or less happy with it, we were disappointed to see that there is no Thunderbolt connection. Not only that but the only USB Type-C port it has is only a 3.1 (Gen. 1) (up to 5Gbps). You know what it else lacks – an SD card reader.

Archive.org versionThere’s another point that might give you pause. Acer announced a new Helios 300 laptop with an Nvidia RTX 3070 for the spring of 2021. That will no doubt outperform all currently available RTX 2070 gaming laptops. It’s unclear exactly when the new Helios 300 will hit stores, but it should be worth the wait.

Archive.org versionThe Predator Triton 300 slots somewhere in between the popular Helios 300 and the higher-tier Triton 500. It's a fine option in its class, with a practical and well-built chassis, good inputs, and excellent display and overall smooth performance with daily use, demanding loads, and games. Thermals are its culprit, though, as well as the small battery and limited IO compared to other ultraportable performance notebooks, which Acer will hopefully compensate with aggressive prices.

Acer: In 1976, the company was founded in Taiwan under the name Multitech and was renamed Acer or Acer Group in 1987. The product range includes, for example, laptops, tablets, smartphones, desktops, monitors, TVs and computer peripherals. Since 2007, the group has merged with Gateway Inc. and Packard Bell, which also market their own laptop product lines.
Acer computers are designed for a variety of purposes, including ultrabooks for mobile use, gaming laptops for gamers, affordable options for everyday tasks, and 2-in-1 convertible laptops for versatility. Acer's product portfolio also includes tablets that offer portable computing and multimedia capabilities.
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Mobile: Mid range dedicated graphics card for laptops based on the desktop GTX 1650 and therefore the Turing architecture (TU117 chip in 12nm FFN) without raytracing and Tensor cores. Available with 896 and 1024 shaders.
With these GPUs you are able to play modern and demanding games fluently at medium detail settings and HD resolution.
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q: High-End laptop graphics card based on the TU106 chip with 2,304 shaders and 8 GB GDDR6 VRAM. Offers reduced clock speeds to achieve a much lower power consumption.
