Acer has released the Acer Chromebook Spin 312, a new convertible notebook featuring hinges that offers a huge opening angle, allowing the Spin 312 to be used in tent mode. As you might expect, a device like this comes with a touchscreen. The 12.2-inch display supports a 60Hz refresh rate and has a resolution of 1,920 x 1,200 (WUXGA), providing more vertical pixels than standard Full HD in landscape mode.
The convertible is equipped with an Intel Core i3-N305, which boasts eight cores and a max turbo clock speed of 3.8 GHz. The processor is supported by 8 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128 GB of flash storage. These amounts may seem quite modest compared with typical notebooks. However, a Chromebook like the Spin 312 is intended more for web-based applications and lighter workloads, such as text processing and educational purposes. ChromeOS is designed for easier configuration in this context and is advertised as being particularly secure.
Acer claims the Chromebook Spin 312 has a maximum battery life of 13 hours and can charge at up to 65 watts. Conveniently, the device doesn’t come with a dedicated charging port, instead opting to use USB-C for this purpose. You’ll also find two USB-A ports, an HDMI 1.4 output and an audio combo jack. The 2-in-1 Chromebook weighs approximately 1.3 kg (2.84 lb) and retails for US$450 in the US.
