Acer Aspire Vero AV15 Series

The latest to join the Acer family is the Acer Aspire Vero. Acer claimed this model to be an environmentally-friendly laptop with its laptop being made from recycled items. Acer’s environmental claims stated that the chassis and bezels of this laptop are 30 percent post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic while the screen is more than 99 percent recyclable. In addition, the keycaps are 50 percent PCR plastic, and the packaging is 100 percent recyclable which can be turned into a reusable laptop stand. Acer went on further to claim that the Vero is saving around 21 percent in carbon dioxide emissions as compared to a regular plastic laptop chassis of the same size.
However, it is worth mentioning that these proportions of recycled material are not especially unique among laptop chassis. For instance, HP’s Elite Dragonfly Max, which is not at all an eco-branded laptop, also has a 50 percent PCR keyboard with bezels that are 45 percent PCR, and some of the Dragonfly line have had chassis that are 90 percent recycled. Apple’s new MacBooks have incorporated high proportions of recycled material for a while, and the new Pros’ enclosures are 100 percent recycled aluminum. So, this laptop cannot be the only one standing out with this claim.
In terms of its design, the Aspire Vero does come in with an earthy vibe to it. The lid and palm rests do have a slightly coarse texture with a speckled gray colour, reminiscing handmade recycled paper. The device is noticeably plastic, and it has got a bit of a flimsy feel to it as compared to higher-end Acer products like the Swift 3. In addition, there are also noticeable flex in the keyboard and the display. Overall, the speakers are quite decent with clear vocals and decent volume. However, bass and percussion were weak though. Apart from that, the microphones support AI noise reduction which tends to be great for video calls. But the useful port selection is definitely a plus for this device as there is a single USB-C port, two USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports, one USB 2.0 port, an HDMI 2.0 port, a 3.5mm audio jack, and an Ethernet jack. In addition, there is also an AC adapter and a lock slot.
It is also worth noting that the 15.6-inch FHD display has to be the weakest part of the laptop as it is fairly dim, maxing out at just 227 nits, and it covers just 66 percent of the sRGB gamut. The processor for this device is the Intel Core i7-1195G7 paired with a 16GB of memory and a 512GB SSD. The performance from the processor has to be the strongest feature of Aspire Vero. As for battery, this model has been equipped with the 48Whr battery. Overall, it is a laptop with its own high and low which needs consideration.

If we take it as read that rampant consumerism is ruining our environment then making laptops out of partly recycled plastic isn’t going to have any significant impact on the problem. That said, Acer does deserve some kudos for raising awareness of the issue and doing something to address it. And, even ignoring the environmental considerations, the Vero is a rather good laptop. I like the looks and, apart from the slightly weak display it does its intended job well. Performance from the Intel Core i7-1195G7 processor is impressive for the price and the speaker system performs very creditably. It can be strongly recommended to anyone seeking a general-purpose 15in laptop and who isn’t oblivious to the impending eco-catastrophe.

A laptop is clearly an office machine, and it performs very well in office tasks. The Core i5 model is very suitable for the home. And yes, for this price you can find more powerful options, with a better screen. But hey, with this powerful laptop you can help the environment. Every little bit helps, right? Overall, the Acer Aspire Vero is a good laptop, and Acer as a company can take a bow here.

The Acer Aspire Vero is a great laptop for those who want a great-looking notebook that’s also helpful for the environment. It’s moderately powerful for a mid-range pick and also offers up a brilliant selection of ports. Battery life is a little bit below par, and the Full HD display, while plenty big enough, is a smidgen dim at times.

That about sums my feelings on this device. As a laptop, it’s too expensive for what it offers. While there’s likely a small group of people who don’t want a GPU but do want the power of the 1195G7, the mediocre battery life isn’t a sacrifice I’d recommend that most people make. Laptops like HP’s Pavilion Aero 13 and Acer’s own Swift 3 deliver better battery life in thinner and lighter chassis at the Vero’s price, and most people won’t notice the performance difference. And as an eco-friendly purchase, the Vero is pursuing a commendable mission that it does not actually achieve. If your priority is having the lowest environmental impact possible (which is certainly a priority everyone should have), buy a power-efficient laptop that you won’t need to replace any time soon. Buy something like the Framework Laptop, which is made entirely of user-upgradeable components. Buy any number of better built laptops from Dell, HP, Lenovo, or Acer itself that are stable and sturdy and will last for years (and aren’t too much more expensive than this Vero unit).

If not for the meager battery life, the Acer Aspire Vero would have earned a stronger recommendation among midrange laptops, particularly for environmentally conscious people with budgets of less than $1,000 to spend on a laptop. It features a roomy if somewhat dim display and a comfortable if somewhat quirky keyboard wrapped up in a youthful, eco-friendly design. It provides sufficient performance for student life outside of gaming, and you won’t find a laptop with decent 3D graphics muscle at this price. We could live with the display being on the dull side and the few oddities about the keyboard, given the price, but the limited battery life is a bigger obstacle to recommending the Aspire Vero for people who need a laptop that they can carry across campus or the office all day, then use for more work at night without worrying about making recharging stops. Compact laptops often feature small, three-cell batteries, but a large, 15.6-inch laptop like Aspire Vero ought to have room to accommodate a bigger battery for a longer runtime.

The Acer Aspire Vero feels like the first step in a long journey to more sustainable tech. If you’re looking for a new laptop with a lessened environmental impact, this may be one of your best options, with no immediately obvious compromises thanks to its bang-up-to-date CPU and affordable price point. The Acer Aspire Vero feels like the first step in a long journey to more sustainable tech. By using just 30% PCR plastics in the chassis, Acer claims to have reduced CO2 emissions by 21% for the production of that part of the laptop. I’m excited to see how much further Acer is able to take its green initiative with future laptops. For now, the Aspire Vero seems like a great option if you’re looking for a new laptop with a lessened environmental impact.

The best thing I can say about the Acer Aspire Vero is that it’s a normal laptop. Trust me, that’s higher praise than you think. Environmentally conscious gadgets have a tendency to cut corners, to put it lightly — utilising older components and hiding behind the facade of doing good for the planet to charge an extortionate price. The Acer Aspire Vero, however, is a competent laptop with the latest CPU power, a comfortable typing experience and a sturdy construction, with the added benefit of being able to repair, upgrade or recycle this laptop by yourself. Let’s hope this is the start of a move toward a more sustainable future of laptop design.

The Acer Aspire Vero isn’t the most solid machine out there, but it works well as a work laptop. Plus, this Green PC, I must say, is a great initiative. Ideally, if more and more devices are produced like this, it could positively impact our planet. Furthermore, it would also be best if brands would opt to make more eco-friendly laptops, especially those with a more beefy configuration. Both i5 and i7 variants will be available in the Philippines around late October, with prices starting at PHP 41,999.

There are two headliners that make the Acer Aspire Vero more than an average, midrange laptop. For starters, it's made with PCR (post-consumer recycled) plastic that makes the manufacturing process more environmentally friendly but also results in a notebook with a funky, textured design that lets the Aspire Vero stand out from the 15.6-inch laptop crowd. The other headliner is inside the machine—it's the first laptop we've reviewed that's preinstalled with Windows 11. Powering Microsoft's latest operating system is a Core i7 chip from Intel's latest series, integrated Intel Xe graphics, and an ample 16GB of RAM. The laptop feels snappy, but its battery life disappoints. I also have a few quibbles with the display and keyboard, but they're relatively minor. With a longer runtime, the Aspire Vero would earn a stronger recommendation for students or anyone looking for an eco-friendly, big-screen laptop.

Windows 11 is here, and with it, a new era of laptops. While many of these new devices want to emphasize a sleek new design or powerhouse performance, the new Acer Aspire Vero has a different ethos in mind. Sustainability. The marketing material makes some ambitious claims about the environmentally-friendly way the Acer Aspire Vero was made, and I would assume those choices are costly. When you look at the display, battery life, and touchpad on this budget laptop, that becomes obvious. As much as I’d love to give Acer props, the Acer Aspire Vero ends up cutting too many corners to be worth its price. No. The Aspire Vero is slightly too expensive for its quality and doesn’t make up for it with enough truly sustainable initiatives.

The 15.6” Acer Vero AV15 notebook was certainly a pleasant surprise. It shows that it’s possible to construct a notebook with sustainability in mind, while still providing a solid work experience. The PCR chassis immediately clocks the Vero AV15 as unique, complemented with subtle yellow tones throughout. Yes, battery life could have been better but it’s one of the few complaints I have about the Vero AV15. If you are inclined towards a greener way of life, or even if you’re just looking for a great notebook, the Acer Vero AV15 is a top choice. At R16 800, the price is pretty much on par for what’s on offer, although some notebooks in this price class will double the RAM.

The Acer Aspire Vero is as fine a Windows work notebook as we have encountered to date. It has a generous, bright 15.6″ display, features a solid 11th Gen Intel i7 processor and generally does all the basics really well. When you factor in the sustainability elements, it would a lot of sense to the go-to option for companies looking to kit out their workforce with new notebooks. While we hesitant of the recycled plastics chassis, it has not proved a hindrance to the overall look and feel of the device. It will simply come down to a matter of taste. If sustainability is an important consideration for you, the Acer Aspire Vero is well worth considering. Where a focus on sustainability on products often leads to sacrifices elsewhere, the Acer Aspire Vero suffers from none of that. The notebook is as capable a Windows work notebook as we have encountered of late.

The Acer Aspire Vero is one of the most affordable laptops that has an environmental bent. Apple’s MacBooks make significant use of recycled aluminium but are out of reach of many of us. Back in 2019 HP made the Dragonfly Elite, which also used a lot of recycled plastic. But it cost a small fortune and was a business laptop. HP’s comparable Pavilion series also uses some “ocean-bound” plastics, but seemingly only in the speaker enclosure. Making laptops with recycled materials is an honourable aim, even if it does not make up for the environmental impact of all the stuff that actually goes into a laptop. It’s time to bring up a cliche phrase: let’s not make the perfect the enemy of the good. But should you actually buy an Acer Aspire Vero? It looks decent, performs very well and you get a generous amount of storage even in the base model. You do have to put up with so-so battery life, a display with weak-looking colour and a design that may not cut it if you value portability.

What is the best thing about this machine? Well, we bet you know the answer to that question! Yes, it’s the philosophy behind it. In a world, where some manufacturers remove the charging bricks from their phone’s packaging and then sell them separately, we need real actions. The Aspire Vero is built out of 30% post-consumer recycled plastics, while its packaging is up to 100% recycled. We hope that sets some standards and examples for the competition. But one thing is sure, Acer needs to work on the build quality for the next generation. This one has too much flex in both the lid and the base, which is not very trust-inspiring. On the other hand, it comes with a preinstalled Windows 11 copy, and the Core i7-1195G7 works at very high clocks, even during long loads. This is possible thanks to the cooling solution, which comprises two heat pipes, and two fans. Acer Aspire Vero (AV15-51)’s IPS panel has a Full HD resolution, comfortable viewing angles, and a good contrast ratio. Moreover, its backlight doesn’t flicker at any brightness level, which makes the device comfortable in this aspect.

Acer’s environmentally conscious laptop feels solid, sounds great, and offers decent if unremarkable performance. But is it worth your money? At the end of the day, the Aspire Vero is simply a good laptop wrapped in an eco-friendly bow. It performs well, has a decent port selection, and don't forget that a Core i7 processor with 16GB of RAM for under $1,000 is a good deal. The experience is tempered by its ho-hum display and lackluster battery life, though you might be willing to overlook those if you like the machine's green credentials; those are what elevates this machine from a 3.5-star to a 4-star showing. If you're able to stretch your budget, however, you can find a more impressive overall desktop-replacement laptop for a few hundred dollars more in our 15-inch Editors' Choice winner, the Dell XPS 15.

The Acer Aspire Vero looks like the short path to a fresh, green conscience. The initiative is commendable and every recycled plastic bag is a small step in the right direction. But it is also a rather easy step, since sustainability only applies to the exterior. And then even only a third of the material in the cabinet. To put things in perspective, the chip industry pollutes just as much as the entire automotive industry. And regardless of whether the case looks gray and unpolished, the inside of the PC is brand new and modern. Assessed on more common parameters, the Acer Aspire Vero is a fine and sensible computer for everyday tasks and home office. And if you use it as a study computer, it will probably give you some extra climate points when you take it out of the backpack in the auditorium.

The Aspire Vero aims to be a “green-pioneer laptop” for the eco-conscious. It delivers on that promise with a planet protecting physical form and a better ease in which to upgrade for longevity over its compatriots. But in its belly, it also packs plenty of punch not only for the rigours of the day job, but also play time with processor-heavy programmes like the latest computer games.

If you’re determined to make more eco-conscious buying decisions, the Acer Aspire Vero is the best choice of laptop for you, even though it could go a lot further in its quest to be more sustainable. It’d be great to see a much higher percentage of post-consumer recycled plastic used when it comes to the chassis, bezels and keycaps. But in saying that, it’s also nice to know that this laptop is built in a way that means you’ll be able to repair and recycle it when the time comes. Outside of that, this laptop is pretty average across the board, there's nothing about it that will make you go 'wow'. That’s fine though, not everyone needs a productivity powerhouse with a stellar screen, and the Acer Aspire Vero will be good enough for most day-to-day tasks. Just don’t buy this if you’re a PC gamer or video editor!

The Aspire Vero, although not a high-end laptop, shows that it is possible to make a fairly capable mid-range notebook whilst being socially responsible but without losing out style and build quality. Priced at Rs 57,999, the Aspire Vero is a simple notebook that covers the basics. I see the Vero as a fantastic laptop held back by a few issues, most of which are traditionally associated with most mid-range Windows notebooks.

There’s hardly anything to choose between the Acer and its rivals at the checkout, but in other departments, it’s easier to pick the notebooks apart. The Acer Aspire Vero impresses with its environmental credentials, and it has reasonable battery life, good everyday performance and solid connectivity. It’s good enough to handle mainstream computing. Negatively, though, the Vero is thicker and heavier than rivals, its keyboard feels hollow, the display disappoints, and the components aren’t good enough for tough workloads. Its looks will divide opinion, and this certainly isn’t the only environmentally conscious laptop on the shelves. The price makes it a viable laptop if you want an everyday machine with an environmental focus. But if you want great performance, a vibrant display or a slim, light design, look elsewhere.

It’s hard to compare the XPS 17 to similar computers simply because there just aren’t that many. Most other 17-inch laptops are colossal gaming rigs, with terrible battery life and even more heft. LG’s Gram 17 is unique in that it has a large screen, but it doesn’t pack the performance chops of the XPS 17. Apple’s latest 16-inch MacBook Pro is probably the closest option, with a slightly smaller screen, better performance (outside of gaming), and a lighter chassis at a slightly higher price. But if you don’t like MacOS or just want an even bigger screen, the XPS 17 stands alone. It might just be the ideal work-from-home laptop for those without dedicated desks to work on.

The Acer Aspire Vero is a mid-range laptop that performs well and has no real major flaws as such. It should appeal to environmentally-conscious buyers who are looking to reduce their carbon footprint. This laptop is sturdy and well-built, and offers decent performance, a good selection of ports, a bright display, and a comfortable keyboard. Battery life is also decent, although it could have been better. My only real issue with it is that it's a bit heavy which can be cumbersome if you plan to travel a lot with it. The market price of Rs. 57,999 for the 8GB version is decent, although for a similar price, you can find options with equally competitive specs and Intel's 12th Gen CPUs, such as the Asus VivoBook 15.

At last a company starts to do something about sustainability as the case on this unit is made from recycled plastic, it has a slightly rough feel no doubt not essential but to make you feel you are doing your bit. This latest offering in the Aspire range is called Vero. The strap line comes up on bootup ‘Vero for Planel Earth’. What does this latest offering from Acer have to offer both for sustainability and also for value for money in these testing times?

What’s there to say about the Acer Aspire Vero? If you’re an eco-minded buyer looking for a laptop that works well in everyday use and is probably excellent for light business use. Then the Vero is right up your alley. There are plenty of great features and plenty of I/O, which is lacking in other laptops. The price point is attainable, and the design is appealing. The speakers and only 300 nit brightness panel are my only two MAJOR gripes about this laptop. I disliked other minor strange and quirky things, but most of those are just little personal preferences, such as the lid taking two hands to open. Or the number pad being smaller than I’d like. Or the off-center trackpad. At the end of the day. The Acer Aspire Vero is aimed at eco-minded shoppers, and everything from the power cable to the box has that in mind. For those buyers, this is going to be the one.

Let’s face it, rampant consumerism is ruining our environment, and making laptops out of partly recycled plastic isn’t going to have any significant impact on the problem. However, we must give it to Acer for raising awareness on the issue and doing something to address it. And, even without the environmental consideration, the Aspire Vero is a fairly good laptop. I particularly like the looks and, were it not for the slightly weak display, it does its intended job well. The Intel Core i7-1195G7 delivers impressive performance for the price, battery life is top-notch and the speaker system performs impressively. As such, if you’d like an affordable everyday notebook with some extra environmental credentials, the Acer Aspire Vero AV15-51-7617 is an excellent choice – it’s well-balanced and offers stellar performance.

Like last year’s model, the 2023 version of the Aspire Vero shows that Acer can innovate with the materials of a laptop without making it feel like a science experiment. With relatively high percentages of pre- and post-consumer materials, the Vero shows that everything old could be new again, if more companies were willing to recycle and reuse plastic in their computers. Personally, I love that the Vero is, to steal a phrase from Apple in its marketing for the iPhone 5C, unapologetically plastic. There’s no other machine that looks or feels quite like this one. If there’s one downside to the Vero’s environmental credentials, it’s that for another year, you have limited upgrade options. RAM is soldered to the board, so if you require more later you’ll need an entirely new computer, one that took a bunch more carbon to create.

We truly wish the Vero lineup would adopt a more modular approach, and make repairs and upgrades easier to keep these recycled machines useful for longer.

Acer introduced the Acer Aspire Vero in 2022, pushing its eco-conscious build and sourcing. The first generation was a solid effort and scored points with me for its looks. Now we’re back in 2023 with the Acer Aspire Vero 15, once again showcasing its eco-conscious build with new colorways to boot. There’s not much in terms of performance or tech specs (apart from these are the most comparable current hardware components available) that set the Acer Aspire Vero 15 apart from any of its brethren.

The Acer Aspire Vero is a competent system, but its merely adequate performance would be much easier to swallow if it qualified for budget laptop status instead of being on the cusp of too expensive at $849 MSRP. The 2023 model's move to Intel 13th Generation silicon brings a modest bump in performance but doesn't justify trading up from last year's edition. This is a perfectly competent laptop, but Acer barely hitting the desktop-replacement basics while fractionally reducing your carbon footprint doesn't do enough to replace the Dell XPS 15 or Apple MacBook Air 15-Inch as our Editors' Choice picks for desktop replacement laptops.

The Acer Aspire Vero 15 surprises not only with a QHD camera, long runtimes and high performance, but it also features a robust and attractive design, good input devices and a bright, colorful display. Furthermore, the office laptop never gets too loud and depending on the model you choose, the price is right, too.

Acer: In 1976, the company was founded in Taiwan under the name Multitech and was renamed Acer or Acer Group in 1987. The product range includes, for example, laptops, tablets, smartphones, desktops, monitors, TVs and computer peripherals. Since 2007, the group has merged with Gateway Inc. and Packard Bell, which also market their own laptop product lines.
Acer computers are designed for a variety of purposes, including ultrabooks for mobile use, gaming laptops for gamers, affordable options for everyday tasks, and 2-in-1 convertible laptops for versatility. Acer's product portfolio also includes tablets that offer portable computing and multimedia capabilities.
