Just after ASUS had a new entry into its Lamborghini range of laptops, it is back with yet another product-the U36 ultra-thin laptop. The laptop which was launched just recently is now up for pre-order in the US.
The Asus U36 is propelled by a powerful Intel Core i5-460M 2.53GHz dual-core full-voltage processor packed with Nvidia Optimus switchable GPU technology; using the GeForce G310M 1GB DDR3 card for dedicated graphics and Intel GMA HD integrated graphics for low usage. Also under the hood are 4GB of memory and a 500GB 7,200rpm hard drive. The laptop features a 1366×768 13.3-inch LED screen with an integrated 0.3MP web camera. Also standard are features as a chiclet-style keyboard, wireless N, Gigabit LAN, Bluetooth, HDMI and VGA video ports, a single USB 3.0 and two USB 2.0 connectors, and a 5-in-1 media card reader.
The ASUS U36 laptop has two variants. The U36 weighing 3.17 pounds and measuring only 0.75-inch thin is touted to be “the lightest notebook with a standard voltage CPU” and has a 4-cell battery. The U36JC-A1, on the other hand, has an 8-cell battery which has a claimed battery life of up to 10 hours and weighs 3.74 pounds. The nifty ultraportable runs on Windows 7 Home Premium OS.
On the design front too, the ASUS U36 ultra-thin laptop has some pretty nice touches- a magnesium-aluminum alloy cover and an easy to clean silky nanometer coating on the palm rests. Currently, the ASUS U36JC-A1 is selling for $969.00 from Excaliber PC.
