Originally launched in H1 2024, AOC's 10W1D is said to be optimized for use in education. It features a 10.1-inch e-ink Carta display with a resolution of 1200 × 1600 pixels for a 200 PPI pixel density and a 3:4 aspect ratio that is very much suitable for reading or taking notes.
The black-and-white e-ink panel has a glass cover over it, and a matte AG coating which provides 23 percent diffusion. This acts to reduce glare, supposedly resulting in a more eye-friendly viewing experience. When it comes to display refresh modes, the following options are offered: HD, Normal, Fast, and Ultra-fast.
At the heart of the tablet is a quad-core Rockchip RK3566 that is based on the Cortex-A55 architecture. There is 2 GB LPDDR4 RAM onboard along with 32 GB of eMMC storage that's slated to be very slow compared to the latest UFS chips. The tablet features a fiber glass panel at the back which allows for a lightweight design without compromising on durability. The product weighs 385 grams (0.85 pounds) and measures just 6.5 mm in thickness. A metal strip runs across the sides and holds the front and rear panels together.
On the software side, the AOC 10W1D runs the company's proprietary, Android 11-based Smart Study OS to allow for a customized reading and writing experience. You can also install third party study-oriented apps from the AOC app store. There is no mention of Google Play Store integration, effectively locking users out of a vast ecosystem of apps and services; that being said, for China, this is probably .
Keeping the device alive is a 4,000 mAh battery which AOC says is good enough to last several weeks on a single charge. The tablet supports 10W wired charging and hence should top-up fairly quickly via USB-C port. The latter also supports OTG and audio output. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi (2.4GHz and 5GHz) and Bluetooth 4.2. Other features include built-in dual 1W speakers and dual microphones.
Included in the package is a Wacom EMR stylus which does not need recharging. The tablet also incorporates a suite of smart AI-powered features designed to support students in their academic pursuits, such as OCR and tools that should aid the user in identifying common mistakes. Other features include handwriting markup, file encryption, split-screen mode, PDF annotation, and so on.
The AOC 10W1D is currently available only in China, reportedly retailing on JingDong for 1,699 yuan, which converts to around $250 - a much lower price than what was announced in March 2024. There is no word yet on US availability.
