A Phoronix Test Suite result uploaded in August lists a validation board and vBIOS carrying the "GBR" prefix for AMD Gainsborough.

An engineering sample of AMD's Gainsborough APU appears in a Phoronix Test Suite result on OpenBenchmarking. The result, titled "0807gpufull", was uploaded on August 7, 2026, nearly two months before the codename was found in AMD's Adrenalin 26.9.2 driver.

AMD Gainsborough test system specifications listed on OpenBenchmarking

The test system lists its motherboard as "AMD GBR-FF6-SKT" and its graphics vBIOS as "113-GBRGENERIC-001". The processor carries the OPN "100-000001930-12_Y" and has six cores and 12 threads at 2.4 GHz. Memory consists of four 6 GB SK Hynix H58GE6MK9BX207 packages, for a total of 24 GB at 9,600 MT/s. The integrated GPU reports a 2,400 MHz clock, but the compute unit count is not listed.

The CPU microcode revision is 0x0BD0C000. Based on the revision format of existing AMD processors, this corresponds to Family 1Ah, model DCh, stepping 0. Zen 5 and Zen 6 both use Family 1Ah. A Linux 7.2-rc6 fix reassigned models 0xD0 to 0xD7 to Zen 5, while 0xD8 to 0xEF remain reserved for newer CPU IPs in the Zen 6 family. Model DCh falls within the Zen 6 range, suggesting this new chip will use AMD's latest CPU IP, though this alone cannot confirm whether the chip uses the dense Zen 6C variant or the full Zen 6 design.

The system runs Ubuntu 24.04 with Linux kernel 7.1.0, AMD's amdgpu DKMS driver and Mesa 26.2.0-devel. GpuTest results were recorded at 1,024 × 768 in windowed mode, including 3,871 points in GiMark, 3,508 points in FurMark and 9,319 points in TessMark.

Valve's Steam Deck chips have used Final Fantasy VII codenames such as Aerith and Sephiroth, and Gainsborough is Aerith's surname. However, leakers have also tied the FF6 package to AMD's Ryzen Z3 handheld chips. For reference, the current Steam Deck uses a four-core, eight-thread Zen 2 APU with 16 GB of LPDDR5. Neither AMD nor Valve has announced Gainsborough, and no pricing or availability information exists.
