The Dead Space remake is being hailed as a masterpiece, thanks to its upgraded visuals, immersive audio and refined gameplay. Right now, it's available for just $12 instead of the usual $60 – an 80% discount that matches its lowest price to date.

Dead Space is widely regarded as one of the most iconic horror games of its era. Originally developed by Visceral Games in 2008, it blended intense survival horror with fresh gameplay ideas and set a new standard for atmosphere in the sci-fi genre. The remake, released on January 27, 2023, was developed by Canadian studio Motive and published by EA. Staying faithful to the original, the remake once again puts players in the shoes of engineer Isaac Clarke, who responds to a distress signal from the USG Ishimura – a massive mining ship left in ruins and drifting through space. There are no survivors, only grotesquely mutated creatures known as Necromorphs. To stay alive, players need more than quick reflexes – they must strategically dismember enemies, a core mechanic that brings a tactical edge to the game’s intense combat.

The German gaming magazine GamePro reviewed the Dead Space remake and gave it an impressive score of 88 out of 100. The gameplay has been fully modernized, with smoother controls and significant improvements to the “Zero-G” sequences in weightless environments. Visually, the game has also taken a major step forward. Dark lighting and dynamic shadow effects create a tense, oppressive atmosphere, which GamePro says is perfectly complemented by outstanding sound design. From the creaking of metal walls to distant monster shrieks and the hum of machinery, every sound adds to the game’s gripping intensity.

If you're into atmospheric horror games, Dead Space delivers in spades. However, not everything hits the mark. The graphics for human characters don’t quite match the high standard set by the rest of the game, and while the overall pacing remains engaging, tension dips slightly in the final third. The mission structure also leans on familiar tropes like “eliminate this enemy” or “activate that terminal,” which can start to feel repetitive over time.

Overall, the Dead Space remake has received strong reviews. The German gaming outlet GameStar even called it a “masterpiece.” On Metacritic, the game holds a Metascore of 87 and a User Score of 7.9. Since its release, nearly 47,000 reviews have been posted on Steam, with 91% of them positive. For those who enjoy gaming on the go, there's more good news: Dead Space is Steam Deck Verified (available on Amazon for around $450) and runs smoothly on the handheld device.

80% discount on Steam

Dead Space normally sells for the full price of $60, but until August 11, it's available with a steep 80% discount, bringing the price down to just $12 – matching its lowest price to date. According to SteamDB, the remake has only been offered at this price once before.
