Nokia was once a great smartphone manufacturer. The greatest, some might even say. But today, it's fallen from the pinnacle, banking on nostalgia in hopes of restoring itself to greatness.
Donald Trump knows about "great." In fact, his presidential motto is based around the very word. What would happen if the two names were to come together in a single product?
A super expensive, super premium Nokia device would result—that's what.
In order to commemorate Trump's first time coming face to face with Russian President Vladimir Putin (who, by the way, is also laser-focused on restoring his country to "greatness") Russian phone-customizing company CAVIAR has released a unique version of the new Nokia 3310. It's covered in gold, made of titanium, and features a very prominent and coin-like engraving of the two world leaders facing in the same direction. It's also very expensive.
Just how expensive is it? $2,500, that's how much. That is orders of magnitude higher than what a regular 3310 costs. But it is being sold as a limited-edition luxury device for people who are really stoked about this historic meeting, so maybe the price may not be too outlandish to the right customer.
Luxurious as it may be, this custom phone is still a regular 3310 at heart. There are no improvements to components or features whatsoever; it's a purely visual makeover. Depending on your opinion of Nokia's new device, that may or may not be a good thing.
