The next generation of Intel's processors is expected to launch sometime later this year, but another refresh could be in store before Cherry Trail is available. The refresh appears to target the Celeron and Pentium lines of the current Bay Trail generation, with four new models anticipated.
According to CPU World, Intel will launch the N2808, N2840, N2940 and N3540 processors, the first three of which are of the Celeron variety and the last being a Pentium chip. The refresh will supposedly boost maximum CPU Burst frequencies, offering 3-7% better CPU performance across the board and 6% better GPU performance for the Celeron models.
The improved CPU Burst appears to be the only change that's forthcoming, as the processors feature the same number of cores, clock speed and energy consumption as their predecessors (the N2807, N2830, N2930 and N3530). The refresh should also launch in the second quarter of this year, providing enough time before the expected Q3 announcement of Cherry Trail.
