Acer announced a new smartphone-tablet hybrid to be out this September – Acer Iconia Smart. Powered by Android operating system v2.3 (Gingerbread), it has a 1GHz Scorpion processor with 512 MB RAM and 512MB ROM which makes it quite equivalent with the tablets. Its internal memory is of 8GB which can extended up to 32GB with a microSD card. The display provided with Acer Iconia Smart is a 4.8 inches TFT capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 480 x 1024 pixels. Although you can make calls with it, a size and features similar to the Streak 5-inch places the Smart at a category that can boast of being both a smartphone and a tablet.

It supports GSM 850/900/1800/1900 for 2G Network and HSDPA 900/1900/2100 for 3G. The American version is equipped with HSDPA 850/1900/2100 bands. It merely weighs about 185 grams and has dimensions measuring 141.7 x 64.5 x 13.6 mm.

Data connectivity of the device is with GPRS, EDGE, and 3G connectivity can reach up to a speed of 5.76 Mbps. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and a micro USB v2.0 is also provided with it as other connectivity options.

Most “eye catching” feature that Acer Iconia specifies is the 8 MP camera at its back with an autofocus capability and a LED flashlight also added.

A standard Li-Po 1500mAh battery should run you through 4-5 hrs of computing. All these above specifications definitely make Acer Iconia Smart a hybrid Smartphone-tablet. The device may be valued around 490Euros (equivalent to about $698) as rumoured though the exact price are yet to be released. There are no exact release dates as well.
