iPad 3 announcement could come next month

Teaser
Sources indicate that Apple may release new iPad as soon as early March

It’s almost been a year since Apple released the iPad 2 and rumors of a successor are as plenty as ever. So far we've heard a ton of rumors, including the possibility of a smaller form factor iPad 3 and even about the release coinciding with Steve Job’s birthday. Now this time around, the rumors come courtesy of AllThingsD, whose sources are pointing to an early March release date for the iPad 3.

According to the publication, Apple is set to release the next version of their iPad in the first week of March in San Francisco. The sources also confirm what we’ve previously heard about the device, stating that it will have the same look as the iPad 2, but will be powered by a more powerful processor and should feature a high-res (2048x1536) Retina Display. Unfortunately, there is no word as to when the tablet will be available for sale, although it should be a week or two after an official announcement, just like the iPad 2.

In other news, images of what is supposedly the iPad 3’s rear cover have been leaked by multiple sites, including 9to5Mac and Cult of Mac. Sadly, if the images are to be believed, there doesn’t appear to be much of a design difference between the iPad 3 and the iPad 2, with only a few changes being made in order to accommodate a new battery, camera and screen.

Though it shouldn’t be too long till we get an official announcement from Apple, the rumors are bound to keep piling on till then. As always, stay tuned for all the latest info, but in the meantime check out the source links below for the leaked images.
