Apple has now released a stable version of iOS 16.2 for the iPhone 8 and later. Apple reserves some new features for its latest iPhones though, as it has also done with iPadOS 16.2 and Apple M1 or Apple M2-powered iPads.

Apple has finally issued a stable version of iOS 16.2, nearly two months after the company released iOS 16.2 Beta 1. In the meantime, Apple rolled out iOS 16.1.2, which arrived less than two weeks ago. While iOS 16.1.2 focused on optimising Apple's Crash Detection feature for the iPhone 14 Pro series, iOS 16.2 makes considerably more changes to iOS 16 for multiple iPhone models.

Mirroring iPadOS 16.2, iOS 16.2 ships with the Freeform app, which allows people to collaborate on workspaces across Mac, iPad and iPhone devices. iOS 16.2 adds Apple Music Sing too, a feature that serves as a karaoke option for Apple Music subscribers. Moreover, it is now possible to make emergency calls via satellite if you own an iPhone 14 series handset when there is no cellular network or Wi-Fi available.

iOS 16.2 brings SharePlay support to Game Center too, as well as Home app refinements focused on improving communication reliability and performance between Apple devices and smart home accessories. Furthermore, Apple has implemented several bug fixes and miscellaneous improvements, such as AirDop switching to 'Contacts Only' mode after 10 minutes to avoid unwanted requests. iOS 16.2 should be available to download globally now as a 1.29 GB file size. Apple has described the security improvements that iOS 16.2 contains too, in a dedicated support page.
