Robust home portable offers great gaming with beautiful-sounding audio and a stylish striped lid.
This big multimedia notebook is for on-the-go gamers and TV fans. The Toshiba Satellite X205-S9359 handles 3D shooters with aplomb, plus it comes bundled with an add-on TV tuner and remote control for watching shows. For work, productivity applications are also included in the laptop's $2400 (as of 10/9/07) price. Regardless of your pursuit, the big screen and twin hard drives make for very comfortable desktop computing. Just don't count on long battery life. The X205-S9359 is a preconfigured retail model distinguished by a swirly red and black "carmine flare" lid that for a gaming notebook is downright tasteful. A very similar-looking model, the X205-S9349, is $500 less but has only half the video memory and storage.

Don't let its looks deceive you. The Satellite X205-S9359 is one powerful gaming ring.
Toshiba's latest desktop replacement gaming rig doesn't look much like the hardcore gaming systems we're used to seeing. It has an attractive, if not demure, flared red finish that's more typical of a guitar than a computer. The hardware is definitely of the specialist variety; this $2,399 notebook features Nvidia's GeForce 8700M GT graphics card with 512MB of VRAM and 320GB of storage. That combination of features and price is enough to put the X205 on any gamer's short list. Because the 17-inch system features a widescreen display (1680 x 1050 pixels and 720p native resolution), the chassis feels much smaller than that of comparable gaming systems, like the Asus G2S-A1, though the X205's actual footprint is only slightly smaller at 16 x 11 x 1 inches.

NVIDIA GeForce 8700M GT: The NVIDIA GeForce 8700M GT is a DirectX 10 capable video card with 32 Stream Precessors like the 8600M GT, but the core-, shader- and memory clock is higher. Therefore the performance is somewhat above the 8600M GT.
Non demanding games should be playable with these graphics cards.

Intel Core 2 Duo: This is the Core Duo and Core Solo successor with a longer pipeline and 5-20% more speed without more power consumption. As an addition to the Core Duo design there exists a fourth decoder, an amplified SSE-unit and an additional arithmetical logical unit (ALU).
The Core 2 Duo for laptops is identical to the desktop Core 2 Duo processors but the notebook-processors work with lower voltages (0.95 to 1188 Volt) and a lower Frontside bus clock (1066 vs 667 MHz). The performance of equally clocked notebooks is 20-25% lower than Desktop PCs because of the lower Frontside bus clock and the slower hard disks.
T7300: Mid-range (at the time of annoucement) dual core processor based on the Merom core. » Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.
17.10": This display size is a standard format for desktop replacements (DTR). The DTR laptops are heavier to carry, need more power, but texts are easy to read and high resolutions are no problem. DTR are mainly intended for stationary desk use, where weight and energy hunger don't matter. In return, you enjoy the advantages of high resolutions (more details, better legibility).» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.
3.9 kg:
Only a few laptops are in this weight class because the mobility is rather limited due to the high weight.
Toshiba: Toshiba Corporation is a Japanese conglomerate or technology group. The company was established in 1939 and in 1978 Toshiba became the official company name. The company's products and services include power, industrial and social infrastructure systems, elevators and escalators, electronic components, semiconductors, hard drives, printers, batteries, lighting, logistics and information technology. Toshiba was one of the largest manufacturers of personal computers, consumer electronics, home appliances and medical equipment.
79.5%: This rating is not earth-shattering. This rating must actually be seen as average, since there are about as many devices with worse ratings as better ones. A purchase recommendation can only be seen with a lot of goodwill, unless it is about websites that generally rate strictly.
