Rumour | The first MediaTek Dimensity 800-powered phone will be made by Redmi
MediaTek launched the Dimensity 800 SoC at CES 2020. This silicon, as the name suggests, is a next-tier-down version of the flagship 1000 processor. It is to feature 8 cores, all of which are clocked at up to 2.0GHz, alongside a GPU and APU that have 4 cores each.
These companies may be led by Redmi, the Xiaomi spin-off with some particularly successful premium and sub-premium phones of its own, including the Note 8 series of 2019. This claim has been made in a new social media post by the increasingly well-known leaker Digital Chat Station.
Should this tip prove valid, the brand may deliver a phone that supports display refresh rates of up to 90Hz. In addition, MediaTek claims that the Dimensity 800 can supply many of the same AI camera enhancements as the 1000. Finally, this new putative Redmi could offer 5G, albeit of the sub-6GHz and dual-mode variety only.
