The Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 bags an unusual MIUI 12 update
There have been some funny things going on with the Redmi Note 8 and its MIUI 12 upgrade of late. It seems that Xiaomi has been having difficulty bringing all global handsets onto its latest OS, with the inaugural update failing to upgrade those running V11.0.11.0.PCOMIXM.
MIUI 12 also brings Android 10 to the Redmi Note 8, so it is a more complex update than for other devices that received Android 10 with MIUI 11. Nonetheless, the latest update for the Redmi Note 8 is a head-scratcher. Until now, the Redmi Note 8 has been running on the Chinese, global, Indian and Indonesian branches of MIUI. However, it seems that Xiaomi has now opened a European branch for the Redmi Note 8.
It is unclear why this is the case, nor which devices will be eligible to be brought onto the new branch. According to a thread on Mi Community, V12.0.1.0.QCOEUXM contains the October 2020 security patch. Xiaomi is yet to announce why it has opened a new branch of MIUI for the Redmi Note 8, but it has published links to the fastboot and recovery ROMs, which it hosts on its servers.
