Four years after the launch of the 8BitDo Pro 2 Bluetooth Gamepad, 8BitDo finally announced a successor. The new controller, which is called the 8BitDo Pro 3 Bluetooth Gamepad, has been available to pre-order since July 15. Now, nearly a month later, it is available to buy.
The 8BitDo Pro 3 is available to buy on Amazon for $69.99 or directly from 8BitDo's eShop at the same price. However, as at the time of writing, the controller is listed as out of stock on Amazon, although you can still place an order and wait for an email that confirms a delivery date. On the other hand, the 8BitDo eShop appears to have it, but the purchase page says it ships on the 30th of August.
The controller is also listed on Amazon.UK for £59.99, but according to the listing, it won't be released until October 10 which is roughly two months away. This is also the same release date for those who choose to pre-order it on Amazon.de where it costs €69.99.
The 8BitDo Pro 3 Bluetooth Gamepad arrives with several upgrades over its predecessor such as TMR joystsicks, swappable magnetic ABXY buttons, additional bumper buttons, and Hall Effects triggers that can be changed to non-linear tactile triggers with the flick of a switch.
The 8BitDo Pro 3 also has support for 2.4GHz connection and comes with a matching charging dock like the 8BitDo Ultimate 2 Wireless. Sadly, its battery is not removable unlike that of the 8BitDo Pro 2. The 8BitDo Pro 3 is compatible with the Nintendo Switch 1 and 2, as well as Android, Windows, and Apple devices. It is also one of the few 8BitDo controllers with full SteamOS compatibility.
