Tekken director responds to requests for Waffle House stage in Tekken 8
Tekken 8 may soon get a Waffle House stage to brawl just as fans had been requesting for a while now. According to a recent post on X, Tekken director Katsuhiro Harada has sent a proposal to the American waffle restaurant for the same.
Following the memes, Tekken 8 communities have been sending requests to add a Waffle House-themed stage to the game. Harada, on March 30th, posted on X asking people to explain the strange request. The director asked for story and context behind it, and fans were quick to respond.
As per the respondents, Waffle House is a 24/7 restaurant that remains open during emergencies - it only shuts down if there is an absolute disaster. The diner is well-known for serving affordable food and being reliably open. However, the restaurant is also known for brawls and fist fights, especially the crowd that gathers late at night. To counter this, some of the employees are trained to fight.
After the explanation, Harada pointed out that Waffle House has a trademark and rights to the restaurant. Upon community's request, the director has sent a proposal to Waffle House. But he made it clear that the restaurant won't be added to the game if the proposal is turned down. At the time of writing, Waffle House hasn't responded.
Tekken 8 is the eighth canon installment in the popular fighting game series. The game was released earlier this year in January and has been received postively so far. At the moment, the game is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC. Tekken 8 is also playable on Steam Deck, Asus ROG Ally (curr. $694 on Amazon), and Lenovo Legion Go.
