TCL's NxtPaper display technology has been around for a few years now, appearing both on smartphones and large-screen tablets such as the TCL 60 XE NxtPaper and TCL NxtPaper 14. Now, TCL is preparing to bring it to a compact tablet.
For those who don't know, TCL's NxtPaper technology, which is now in its fourth generation, is a paper-like display developed by the company for use in mobile devices. The glare-free display can mimic a color or a monochrome E Ink display with the switch of a button. The display also has eye protection features such as low blue light mode and zero flicker, and for the models with stylus support, the writing experience is akin to that of a pen and paper.
According to Evan Blass, TLC is preparing to launch a new compact tablet that will have its NxtPaper display technology. According to a post made on X by the popular leaker, the tablet will launch as the TCL Tab 8 NxtPaper 5G, and it will be available via the American mobile carrier, Verizon. Based on the name, it seems to be a successor to the TCL Tab 8 4G released in 2022.
In addition to revealing the name, the leaker also shared an image showing what the tablet looks like. The TCL Tab 8 NxtPaper 5G will have moderately slim bezels lengthwise, but the ones on the chin and forehead will be a bit thicker. The upcoming tablet will have an audio jack and stereo speakers with speaker grilles at the top and bottom.
Another feature it will have is a SIM card tray, since it is a 5G tablet after all. The SIM card tray also doubles as a MicroSD card tray. The SIM tray will be on the left, while the buttons, including the NxtPaper Key used for switching between different display modes, will be on the right side.
There are no technical specs yet, so we have no information about the display resolution, processor, RAM, storage, or battery capacity. The source has also provided no details about its price and release date.
