Shelly is now offering a new smart switch for smart home enthusiasts. It has two separate channels and is compatible with the Matter standard, which should make it quite versatile.
Shelly is expanding its lineup of smart home products and the Shelly Gen 4 series to be more precise. The new Shelly 2PM Gen 4 is a smart switch that’s a little bit more difficult to install, at least compared to traditional smart plugs that are widely available on Amazon. Instead, the Shelly 2PM Gen 4 is placed inside a switch or outlet box and hooked up to the corresponding wires. It measures 1.46 x 1.81 x 0.63 inches and can accommodate wires with a cross-section of 0.2 to 2.5 square millimeters.
Two channels are available on a single phase. For example, the new Shelly smart switch can be used for lamps or outdoor blinds. Smart home integration is supported thanks to Bluetooth, ZigBee, Matter and WiFi. The Shelly 2PM Gen 4 can be manually switched on or off via the corresponding app, but it can also be scheduled and programmed for more or less complex setups.
Additionally, the Shelly 2PM Gen 4 is not just a smart switch, but also an accessory that can measure and monitor power draw, even though this feature might not be particularly useful for devices like the aforementioned lights or blinds. Either way, Shelly’s latest smart switch is now available for purchase for an MSRP of €39 on the European market.

I have been active as a journalist for over 10 years, most of it in the field of technology. I worked for Tom’s Hardware and ComputerBase, among others, and have been working for Notebookcheck since 2017. My current focus is particularly on mini PCs and single-board computers such as the Raspberry Pi – so in other words, compact systems with a lot of potential. In addition, I have a soft spot for all kinds of wearables, especially smartwatches. My main profession is as a laboratory engineer, which is why neither scientific contexts nor the interpretation of complex measurements are foreign to me.

My fascination for technology goes back a long way to the Pentium II era. Modding, overclocking and treasuring computer hardware has since become an integral part of my life. As a student, I further developed a keen interest in mobile technologies that can make the stressful college life so much easier. After I fell in love with the creation of digital content while working in a marketing position, I now scour the web to bring you the most exciting topics in the world of tech. Outside the office, I’m particularly passionate about motorsports and mountain biking.
