The PlayStation 4 emulator for Windows and other desktop OS, ShadPS4, has been updated to the version 0.9.0. While the PS4 emulation tool is still not stable, the new update brings a major improvement in terms of game compatibility.

ShadPS4, known as the groundbreaking PS4 emulator for Windows, Linux, and macOS, has received a new update, version 0.9.0. This update went live recently, and even though it doesn't bring the PlayStation 4 emulator to its stable stage, it offers a major improvement in terms of game compatibility.

To be specific, after version 0.9.0 of the PS4 emulator went live, the compatibility page shows that 33 PlayStation 4 games are now playable on Windows. On Linux, 21 are currently shown to be playable, and on macOS, 5 are said to be in this category.

The new update also makes progress in terms of getting the games to run. For example, on Windows, 81 of the tested PS4 titles are said to go in the game, while 59 can get into the menu, and 83 are said to boot. Some of the games that are running on Windows are The Witch and the Hundred Knight 2, Odin Sphere Leifthrasir, Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition, and Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2.

Of course, given that the PS4 emulator is still in its early phase, the PlayStation 4 games that are categorized as "playable" may run into issues. It's also worth noting that the control support is pretty basic, and there's no remapping feature yet (EasySMX X20 curr. $49.79 on Amazon). The good part is that the developers appear to be pushing updates pretty frequently, which means that the stable version of the emulator may be on the horizon.

After the stable desktop version of ShadPS4 is out, it's possible that the developers may bring out a mobile version of the PlayStation 4 emulator, just like the RPCSX-UI-Android. Check out the official FAQ section on the website to learn more about the emulation tool.
