Thanks to the QNAP QNA-UC5G1T USB 3.0 to 5 GbE adapter, laptops without an Ethernet port can connect to wired networks at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via USB 3.0. However, this piece of hardware can also be used to add extra Ethernet ports to NAS devices. The QNA-UC5G1T should hit the US market by mid-June.

QNAP Systems is widely known for its NAS products, but this company is also releasing various storage and networking accessories every once in a while. The latest QNAP product to be unveiled is the QNA-UC5G1T USB 3.0 to 5 GbE adapter for NAS and computers, a compact piece of hardware with a name that should say it all.

According to the official product page, "The light and portable QNAP QNA-UC5G1T USB 3.0 to 5GbE adapter provides the ability to add an extra network port to your computer or QNAP NAS. Supporting 5GbE/ 2.5GbE/ 1GbE/ 100MbE connections, the QNA-UC5G1T is especially useful for laptops that lack native Ethernet connectivity."

The palm-sized QNA-UC5G1T can be connected to other devices using a USB Type-A or Type-C cable. When using it on Windows devices (7, 8, 8.1, and 10 supported), a driver is required. QTS 4.3.6 or later is required for connecting with a QNAP NAS device. Lastly, when used with Linux and macOS computers, the QNA-UC5G1T needs the Aquantia® AQC11U driver.

In some markets, the QNA-UC5G1T is already available through QNAP's partners. In the US, it is expected to arrive mid-June, confirmed the company in a comment posted on YouTube.
