Polestar claims that it has increased the range of its 2024 Polestar 2 electric fastback sedan by improving motor efficiency and power usage. The Polestar 2 Long range Single motor now boasts a WLTP range of 654 km (~406 miles). In addition to the range increases, Polestar has managed to boost the charging speed of the Polestar 2 by up to 36% in some cases.

The 2024 model year Polestar 2 all-electric fastback sedan was announced all the way back in January, with preliminary range figures and a number of improvements to the drivetrain. More recently, Polestar has announced that hardware improvements have granted the Polestar 2 electric sedan up to 22% more range and 36% faster charging over their 2023 MY counterparts.

Some of the biggest improvements to the Polestar 2 come from changes to the batteries, drive train, and motor efficiency. In January, Polestar announced that the Polestar 2 would come in three flavours: Long-range Dual-motor, Long-range single-motor, and Standard-range Single-motor, and the company had estimated that the vehicles would get 592 km, 635 km, and 518 km of range, respectively. Now, Polestar has revealed that even more gains were had in the development of the Polestar 2.

The 2024 Polestar 2 sees changes in range that play out as follows:

  • Long-range Dual-motor: 591 km (~347 miles) vs 487 km (~302 miles) in 2023 MY for an increase of ~22%.
  • Long-range Single-motor: 654 km (~406 miles) vs 551 km (~342 miles) in 2023 MY for an increase of ~19%
  • Standard-range Single-motor: 532 km (~330 miles) vs 478 km (~297 miles) in 2023 MY for an increase of ~11%

The range figures for the Standard-range Single-motor Polestar 2 are still preliminary ratings, but an increase of between 11% and 22% in a single year is nothing to scoff at, even surpassing Polestar's previous estimates in some cases. For reference, the Tesla Model 3 Long Range AWD puts up a good fight, beating out the Long-range Dual-motor Polestar 2 with its 601-km (~374 miles) WLTP range estimate. The Polestar 2 is also slightly more expensive, coming in at €58,190 in Europe, compared to the Model 3 AWD Long Range priced at €50,990.

That said, the Long-range Dual-motor Polestar 2 is the highest-end Polestar, and the top-tier Tesla Model 3 is the Model 3 Performance, priced at €54,990 with 547 km (340 miles) of range. The price disparity between the top-end Polestar 2 and low-end Model 3 is a lot smaller, even if the Tesla still wins out against the Polestar.
