The Boox P6 Pro is an upcoming compact e-reader scheduled for release soon. Official images have been released by the manufacturer, and they reveal the device will be available in two versions — one with a black and white E Ink display, and another with a color E Ink display and stylus support.

Onyx recently announced the Boox Note X5 Mini, a 7.8-inch device with a Black & White E Ink display, in China. Now it has released official renders of its next device, which will launch as the Boox P6 Pro and be available in B&W and color versions.

This isn't the first time Onyx will show off the new devices, as prototypes were on display at IFA last month. This means the Boox P6 Pro should most likely get a global release as the successor to the Boox Palma 2 (curr. available on Amazon for $269.99). However, unlike the versions on display at IFA which have 4G connectivity, the P6 Pro duo have 5G connectivity.

The addition of a SIM card slot will allow users to be able to connect to the internet on the go instead of relying on a Wi-Fi network. Technically, It should also mean that users will be able to use the P6 Pro to make calls, although Boox hasn't highlighted this feature, which might be a hint that the SIM card is for internet connectivity only.

The Boox P6 Pro will have a design similar to the Palma 2 with its thick bezels and single 16MP rear camera. However, the button placements have changed as the volume rocker is on the left side now. There are no technical specifications of the P6 Pro yet.

However, Boox also showed off a color version of the P6 Pro which will be available in two color options. In addition to having a color screen, the color version will also have 8GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, and support for stylus input. It will also have a hybrid SIM tray for a physical SIM card and a MicroSD card.

While there's no info on how much the Boox P6 Pro Color will cost, there's a chance that it will not be as expensive as the reMarkable Paper Pro Move which costs $449. This should make it a cheaper alternative to reMarkable's compact note-taking device.

The Boox P6 Pro and Boox P6 Pro Color are scheduled to be announced in China on October 9. There's no info yet on a global release.
