HMD Global does not plan to release the Nokia 8.4 5G, according to a new report. Instead, the company will launch the Nokia X50, a direct replacement for last year's Nokia 8.3 5G. The Nokia X50 will supposedly feature a Snapdragon 780G SoC, five rear-facing cameras and a huge battery. A large, high resolution and fast display is in order, too.

HMD Global has already released two smartphones under the Nokia X series this year, but Nokiapoweruser (NPU) claims that it has at least one other planned. Apparently, this new Nokia X smartphone will be called the X50, although it will not be a mid-range device like the X10 and X20 are.

Instead, NPU claims that HMD Global has equipped the Nokia X50 with an SM7350, the codename for the Snapdragon 780G (SM7350-AB). For some reason, NPU believes that HMD Global will use the unannounced Snapdragon 775/775G. Last year, Qualcomm released the Snapdragon 765 and Snapdragon 765G under different revisions of SM7250, so there is a chance that it plans to release an SM7350-AA SoC at some stage. However, we suspect that this was simply a mistake on NPU's part, as it does not acknowledge the Snapdragon 780G's existence.

Additionally, NPU asserts that the Nokia X50 will have a 6.5-inch display. The 1440p panel will also have a 120 Hz refresh rate that HMD Global will market as a 'PureDisplay'. HMD Global is supposedly returning to penta cameras too, with a 108 MP sensor as the primary camera. NPU adds that HMD Global will complement this primary camera with a depth sensor, a macro camera, a telephoto lens and an ultra-wide-angle camera.

Finally, NPU believes that the Nokia X50 may have a 6,000 mAh battery, which would be 1,500 mAh larger than the one in the Nokia 8.3 5G. HMD Global is expected to announce the Nokia X50 in the second half of 2021.
