With the Switch 2 launching tomorrow (June 5), Hello Games has announced No Man’s Sky will be getting a free upgrade for those who own the game on the original Switch. The Switch 2 version brings major improvements to the visuals and frame rates, along with more content with the Beacon update. The team has been working in secret for over a year to develop the Switch 2 version.
The HelloGamesTube channel on YouTube posted a deep dive video explaining all the improvements coming to No Man’s Sky on the Switch 2 on launch day. The hardware prowess of the Switch 2 has allowed the developers to take a huge leap forward in terms of visuals and functionality. The game will get multiplayer support as well as cross saves and cross play. The level of detail and render resolution has been increased, and so has the frame rates.
The Beacon update overhauls the settlements, along with bringing large towns with inhabitants that have their own backstories. New buildings have been added, they can be upgraded, and players can become mayors of settlements as well. All this wouldn’t have been possible on the original Switch but the increased horsepower of the Switch 2 has enabled the developers to add these features.
Beacon will also be a free update to No Man’s Sky on the Switch 2. The game originally released for the Switch in October 2022 and pushed the capabilities of the console to its limits. Since the original launch in 2016, No Man’s Sky has improved significantly thanks to the dedicated team behind it. No Man’s Sky is priced at $60 and currently only has a Nintendo Switch version listed on the Nintendo US store.
