Rumours about Nintendo releasing a more powerful version of the Switch persist. Now, a leaker claims that the device will arrive as the Nintendo Super Switch. However, developers have questioned the benefits of Nintendo releasing a more powerful eighth-generation console. Nintendo has announced the release of Monster Hunter Rise special editions of the Switch and Pro Controller, too.

Rumours about Nintendo releasing a new Switch console have been circulating for a while now. Some, like an FCC certification, were merely a new revision of the existing Switch. Now, a conversation between a Brazilian journalist and a leaker has got people talking about the possibility of Nintendo releasing a Pro version of the Switch as the 'Super Switch'.

Undoubtedly, the name Super switch alludes to the 30th anniversary of the Super Nintendo's release in the US. @phluttilippe states that any announcement from Nintendo would not occur until after the company's financial year-end.

The possibility of Nintendo releasing a more powerful eighth-generation console is not necessarily an encouraging one for some developers, though. In an interview with Nintendo Everything, Engine Software asserted the following, in relation to rumours about Nintendo releasing a Switch Pro:

Sure, it would be nice to have more RAM or faster GPU/CPU compared to before, but if it is still considered the same platform you must make sure your game runs on every model. So, for compatibility reasons your performance gets benchmarked on the lowest specifications. We have seen with prior 'upgraded systems' that the additional power never really got utilized well for this reason.

While this may be true, the Switch relies on a dynamic resolution for many games to preserve framerates. Theoretically then, a more powerful 'Super Switch' console could run games at their maximum resolution and framerate without running into compatibility issues. Breath of the Wild would be an example of a game that could benefit from more horsepower, as would The Witcher 3.

Coincidentally, Nintendo has announced that a Nintendo Switch Monster Hunter Rise Special Edition console will launch on March 26. Capcom and Nintendo have not only given the console, Joy-Cons and dock a make-over, but they have given Switch fans a Deluxe Kit DLC. You can read more about the DLC below.

Nintendo will also release a Monster Hunter-themed Pro Controller. Currently, Nintendo has only announced pricing in Japan, but the company will release the special editions in Europe, too.

The Nintendo Switch MONSTER HUNTER RISE Edition features an image of Magnamalo, the game's flagship monster, on the dock, along with other evocative MONSTER HUNTER RISE-themed designs that adorn the console and both Joy-Con controllers. It also comes bundled with a download code for MONSTER HUNTER RISE plus the Deluxe Kit DLC and bonus content.

Deluxe Kit DLC includes: "Kamurai" Hunter layered armor set, "Shuriken Collar" Palamute layered armor piece, "Fish Collar" Palico layered armor piece, Gestures (4 Jumps), Samurai pose set, Kabuki face paint, "Izuchi Tail" hairstyle.
