The new Akaso Sight-300 night vision device combines a 1/1.79-inch CMOS sensor with an ultra-wide-angle lens that offers a 120-degree field of view and an impressive f/1.0 aperture. This combination supposedly enables the device to see practically in the dark. If no light is available at all, the Sight-300 can be combined with an infrared lamp, as the sensor can "see" infrared wavelengths from 600 nm to 1,200 nm.
Integrated, AI-supported image processing is said to record relatively color-accurate videos, at least without an infrared lamp. However, the device lacks optical zoom, so only digital magnification is available at the expense of quality. Another drawback is that the lens must be focused manually, as the night vision device does not have autofocus. The IP65 certification promises protection against rain and water splashes. Remote control of the Sight-300 is possible via the Akaso smartphone app. The replaceable battery is said to provide a runtime of four hours, and videos are stored on a microSD card with a maximum capacity of 512 GB.
Price and availability
The Akaso Sight-300 night vision device is currently being funded on Kickstarter. The early bird price is $159, with the retail price set to rise to $290 upon official launch. The prices quoted do not include shipping, import sales tax or possible customs duties. Delivery is expected to begin in December.
As always, when supporting Kickstarter campaigns, there is a risk that a product may be delivered late or in inferior quality. Since there have been no independent tests of the Akaso Sight-300 to date, all marketing claims made should be viewed with caution.
