The latest version of the Apple TV 4K was launched in October 2022. Featuring an Apple A15 Bionic processor, 4 GB of RAM and up to 128 GB of flash storage, the Apple TV 4K remains one of the most powerful set-top boxes on the market. Even so, Apple is expected to announce a new model with a number of significant improvements soon. As MacRumors has learned from a supposedly reliable source, the next-generation Apple TV 4K will be launched before the end of 2025.
The new model will feature two main innovations. Firstly, Apple is expected to install its own Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chip for the first time, supporting Wi-Fi 7. This is a significant upgrade over the current model, which is limited to Wi-Fi 6, and should not only speed up streaming apps but also enable lower latency and higher picture quality, especially when using a TV as a wireless monitor via AirPlay. Secondly, a new processor is expected, with Apple likely installing a trimmed-down version of the Apple A18 from the iPhone 16 or even the new Apple A19 from the iPhone 17.
The more modern chip will probably result in lower power consumption and may enable new features. It should also make a noticeable difference in terms of gaming performance, although Apple TV still offers only a relatively small selection of games and hardly supports any game streaming services. Lastly, the next-generation Apple TV may also be cheaper, as Apple is reportedly intending to become more competitive with lower prices in what is a highly competitive market.
