The TRMNL X smart e-ink display has been revealed. It arrives as a larger, upgraded version of the original TRMNL display, which was crowdfunded in 2024 before going on general sale in June 2025. Designed for the home or office, it can show information like news, weather, sports and your calendar.
TRMNL’s new product is a 10.3-inch (~262 mm) e-ink display with a 1,872 x 1,404 resolution and 16 grayscale. A full refresh takes 1.2 seconds, while a partial refresh takes 200 ms. The TRMNL X brings support for touch gestures, a built-in accelerometer, and a Qwiic connector. The brand’s logo has been removed from the front of the device, and support for portrait orientation is said to be on the way.
The hacker friendly device runs on TRMNL’s open source firmware, and there are screws allowing you to open and mod the gadget. It supports 2.4/5 GHz Wi-Fi, and there are eight dashboard layouts and over 80 plugins available, such as Google Calendar, ChatGPT, YouTube, Reddit and Shopify. While there is no official Home Assistant integration, this has been demonstrated in a forum. The latest model comes with a stand, a magnetic power mount with USB-C charging, and it is marketed as waterproof. Plus, the standard 5,000 mAh battery is said to allow the display to run for three months on a single charge.
You can now pre-order the TRMNL X for $189.00/£145.00/€166.95 (RRP $219.00/£168.00/€166.95). The company indicates that the product will ship before the end of 2025, though an exact date has not been provided. The website states that users can cancel their order and receive a refund “at any time”. There are six frame finishes to choose from: black, white, clear, sage, gray and wood (faux). Plus, there are optional accessories like a 7,000 mAh battery upgrade ($10/£8.00/€8.95) and the Clarity Kit, which includes the battery upgrade, Developer Edition device and a charging cable ($35/£27.00/€21.95).
